Junior High English Tutor (Part-Time, In-Person)
Do you love language, literature, and helping students build confidence in their reading and writing skills?
Oxford Learning Halifax is seeking an enthusiastic and dependable part-time English Tutor to work with students from Grades 5–9. In this role, you’ll help students strengthen core literacy skills while building confidence and a positive attitude toward learning.
This is an in-person position at our Halifax (Quinpool Road) location.
What You’ll Do - Teach up to 3 students at a time using Oxford Learning’s structured, pre-planned programs
- Support students in reading comprehension, writing, grammar, and critical thinking
- Follow Oxford Learning methodologies (no lesson planning required)
- Complete brief post-lesson notes and student progress updates
- Foster a positive, engaging, and supportive learning environment
- Build rapport with students while maintaining a professional and structured approach
Schedule & Availability - Evenings (4:00pm – 7:00 pm), Monday – Thursday
- Saturday mornings (9:30 am – 2:00 pm)
- Minimum 2–3 shifts per week required
- This is not an online role; in-person attendance is required
What We’re Looking For - Bachelor’s degree (completed or in progress) in English, Education, or a related field
- Strong knowledge of literacy skills
- Experience tutoring or working with students in Grades 6–9 is preferred
- Excellent English communication skills (written and verbal)
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
- Personable, patient and reliable with a positive attitude
- Ability to engage students and make learning enjoyable
Nice to Have - Teaching certification or working toward a B.Ed
- Experience supporting students with varying learning styles
- Long-term availability (year commitment or longer)

Salary / Compensation - $18 – $20 / hour to start
