Job Description
The purpose of Global Information Technology (IT) is to enable the delivery of business processes, communication, collaboration, and knowledge management through the deployment, support, and maintenance of enterprise technology, Infrastructure, applications, and mine technical systems. Operational technology (OT) is a category of computing and communication systems to manage, monitor, and control industrial operations with a focus on the physical devices and processes they use.
The Operational Technology Solutions Specialist supports of all OT technical systems in De Beers Canada. Duties include installation, maintenance and monitoring of OT systems and delivery of business process improvements through the use of technology.
Specifically, the Operational Technology Solutions Specialist’s responsibilities will include:
- Identify & facilitate the delivery of business process improvements through the use of technology;
- Lead the programme of digital initiatives and projects;
- Manage continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the design, installation and maintenance of the 5G System hardware, software and firmware;
- Develop network of external technology providers and consultants;
- Work closely with Anglo American/De Beers and HCL resources racking, stacking and wiring server equipment into go live state;
- Assist in prioritization of OT/Digital initiative based on business need, ROI and resourcing;
- Maintenance and Management of Paging system (PageGate);
- Drive the execution of digital transformation initiatives;
- Maintenance of Tech Services Geo server repeater links;
- Maintenance of VWL- 600 shots 900mHZ radio systems for mining telemetry systems;
- Maintenance of GPS repeaters for survey and Mine technical systems;
- Development of Departmental Operating Procedures for training and planned maintenance systems (SAP);
- Update and maintain SAP equipment lists and BoM’s;
- Generation of PRs and work orders on SAP as required;
- Generate Request for Stock for upkeep of spares inventory in warehouse systems;
- Manage equipment lists and issuance database;
- Assist in Maintenance and administration of Security Access Management Systems (Lenel);
- Deploy and commission Water Management and analytical Data Collection systems in mining areas (jointly with Instrumentation and Systems Technicians);
- Develop project installation and scoping documents with OEMS for Contractor installations on DCP, Fuels systems, Safemine and Fleet Management System. Integral part of Project deployment team;
- Assist with deployment of communication infrastructure of Michelin TPMS;
- Work closely with Mining team to maintain technical systems (e.g.Epiroc, Blastlogic) systems and integrate in Edge Computing Systems;
- Work closely with Mining team to maintain Blastlogic systems;
- Provide assistance in design and deployment of Surveillance management systems including Thermal (Flir) systems;
- Integration of Condition Monitoring infrastructure for Vibration systems (Pruftecnik) into Edge Computing Systems;
- Deployment of WIFI infra-structures to support both commercial and Industrial system;
- Assist in the development of Monitoring, Alerting and visualization systems for immediate response to issues;
- Assisting in the execution of IT and OT projects;
- Assist in the development and deployment of AI based systems to improve reporting, analysis and early trend recognition;
- Perform additional duties as assigned by management;
- Maintain professionalism, a good attitude, and appropriate behavior; and
- Assist in maintaining a clean and orderly workplace.
Working hours: 168 hours bi-weekly – 2x2 rotation (2 weeks on followed by 2 weeks off) fly in fly out of Gahcho Kue Mine site in the Northwest Territories

Compensation:
- Base salary of $100,000 - $115,000 CAD
- Quarterly Site Incentive Plan Bonus – SIP (Target 15.6%)Benefits: Disability Insurance, Dental Insurance, Pension, Extended Health and Dental Medical Insurance, AD&D, Travel Medical Insurance
- 14 days of vacation
Qualifications
Minimum education requirements:
- Completed Grade 12;
- Relevant Information Technology Certifications/Qualifications; and
- Degree or diploma in the field of computer science or in Instrumentation/Electrical Engineering.
Experience and skills required:
- Minimum 5 years work in a relevant mine-based position required.
Technical experience & expertise:
- Hands-on experience with IT infrastructure, including networking, wireless mesh networks, RF networks, and OT systems.
- Experience configuring, administering, and supporting Cisco switches and network protocols.
- Experience administering and configuring VMware ESX servers.
- Experience with Windows Server and Windows desktop systems configuration and administration.
- Working experience with BC Commander and BC Enterprise platforms.
- Experience using SM Tools (Hexagon CAS) and related OT/industrial systems.
- Working knowledge of Cisco wireless mesh architectures, LTE networks, and surveillance technologies.
Systems & Operational Skills
- Ability to perform system analysis and support system integration activities.
- Ability to install, configure, and commission systems with minimal supervision.
- Proven experience troubleshooting and resolving complex OT and infrastructure-related issues.
- Ability to propose practical technical solutions and continuous improvements.
Documentation & Communication
- Experience documenting technical procedures, standards, and operational activities.
- Strong understanding of information processing principles, methods, and procedures.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly.
Leadership & Professional Judgment
- Ability to apply sound technical judgment in operational and high‑pressure environments.
- Experience supporting, guiding, or leading team members and contributing to team development.
