Our engineering team has delivered thousands of small dams across the country over the last 85 years. So much so that we now own over 6,000 water retaining structures responsible for the creation of over 1.2 million acres of wetland. This makes DUC the largest single dam owner in Canada in terms of sheer numbers.

The real strength of our talented group of highly qualified engineering professionals comes from their ability to function as a well-coordinated team that brings a combined wealth of diverse skills, experiences, and perspectives.

What will you do?

As a Provincial Engineer, you will perform a full range of specialized technical services in Atlantic Canada, including but not limited to:

  • Leading provincial dam safety efforts, contributing to dam safety reviews and performing field work, including inspections.
  • Contributing to Dam Emergency Plan and Operation Maintenance and Surveillance plan preparation.
  • Leading the design, contract management, and cost estimation for wetland conservation infrastructure, including earthworks and water conveyance structures.
  • Providing expert knowledge and leadership to the team in hydrotechnical and civil engineering, to assist with project proposals, planning, delivery and implementation, regulatory approvals and permitting.
  • Contributing to team resource management, long-range planning, and budgeting with the provincial asset management team.

Our ideal candidate will thrive in a team environment with minimal supervision and possess excellent team management, communication, and interpersonal skills. Project planning and implementation skills will be required to succeed in this position.

Requirements

  • Civil, Environmental, or Geological Engineering degree or equivalent
  • Professional Engineer (ing.) Designation in Canada (and eligible in NS, NB, and PEI).
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in hydrologic, hydraulic, water resources, geotechnical, or dam safety engineering, including experience with project design and construction; including at least 3 years of supervisory responsibilities.
  • Ability to conduct field work, including remote dam safety inspections by truck or ATV.
  • Strong planning, reporting and project management skills.
  • Contract and construction management skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and time management skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and travel as required.

Assets

  • Experience with Office 365, AutoDesk, HEC-RAS, HEC-SSP, HEC-HMS and other hydrologic/hydraulic modelling software, GIS, or GeoStudio.
  • Experience in the design of dams or earth berms (including water control structures), as well as dam safety, including Canadian Dam Association (CDA) Guidelines, and provincial dam safety regulations.

What We Offer
