About the role

We're growing our web team and looking for a Junior Web Developer to support our Senior Developer across the Visual Capitalist platform. This role is an opportunity to work on a high-traffic, globally recognized media brand and develop real skills across WordPress development, WooCommerce, and front-end maintenance, with direct mentorship from an experienced lead.

You'll be responsible for keeping our sites running smoothly and handling day-to-day maintenance tasks, bug fixes, and platform support work. You'll also support the Senior Web Developer as necessary on other strategic projects.

We operate a lean team structure where we seek out people who enjoy taking a lot of responsibility from day one and who want to make a big impact. There is the opportunity to quickly grow and develop in this role.

Note: While this is a standard business-hours role, occasional after-hours availability may be required for urgent site issues or production incidents. These situations are infrequent but part of working on a high-traffic platform.

What you'll do

WordPress maintenance & support

• Investigate and resolve front-end and back-end bugs on WordPress properties
• Apply plugin and theme updates in staging, test for regressions, and coordinate production deploys
• Assist with PHP template edits, hook/filter modifications, and ACF field adjustments under guidance
• Respond to and triage internal requests (e.g. user access issues, 2FA resets, broken layouts)

WooCommerce & store support

• Manage product listings, subscriptions, pricing updates, and basic order/customer administration
• Assist with minor WooCommerce configuration changes (shipping zones, tax settings, coupon setup)
• Investigate checkout or order-related issues and escalate complex cases to the Senior Developer

Front-end updates & QA

• Implement approved front-end changes: CSS/layout adjustments, template updates, content zone edits
• Perform cross-browser and cross-device QA testing across staging and production environments
• Document bugs clearly with steps to reproduce, environment details, and screenshots

General platform assistance

• Support the Senior Developer on larger projects with scoped, well-defined tasks
• Help maintain internal documentation for common procedures and recurring fixes
• Assist with basic SEO tasks: meta field updates, image alt text audits, sitemap checks

What you bring

• 1-2 years of experience working with WordPress (themes, plugins, the admin panel)
• Solid HTML and CSS fundamentals; basic JavaScript
• Familiarity with PHP at a read-and-edit level (you don't need to architect, but you need to not be afraid of it)
• Basic understanding of how WooCommerce works (products, orders, customers)
• Strong attention to detail and clear written communication
• Ability to follow instructions precisely and ask good clarifying questions

Nice to have

• Experience with ACF (Advanced Custom Fields)
• Exposure to staging/production deployment workflows
• Familiarity with browser DevTools for debugging layout and JS issues
• Any experience with a managed host like WP Engine or SiteGround

Salary & Benefits

The salary range for this role is $60, - $70, CAD, depending on experience and scope alignment.
