Job Description

Who we are

At Yorkville University and Toronto Film School, we believe education is more than the pursuit of knowledge – it is a catalyst for transformation. Our mission is to create access for learners from every background and empower them to achieve their aspirations and advance their careers.

We are committed to delivering rigorous, flexible programs that are both personally fulfilling and professionally rewarding, while contributing to the betterment of society. Since 2004, Yorkville has been among Canada’s few private, for-profit, fully accredited degree-granting universities, with campuses in Ontario, British Columbia, and New Brunswick. Together with Toronto Film School, we offer creative and academic pathways at both the college and university levels, cultivating a multidisciplinary environment where innovation and the arts converge.

Our community is vibrant and diverse. Many of our learners are adults balancing education with careers and personal commitments. Every member of our team – whether in teaching, operations, or technology – is dedicated to removing barriers and expanding access. Together, we deliver flexible, industry-informed learning that leads to meaningful opportunities.

At our core is human connection – guiding people to reimagine their futures in a community defined by opportunity, creativity, and growth.

Who we need

Reporting to the Manager, Office of Accessibility and Academic Accommodations, we are hiring an Accessibility and Learning Strategies Specialist to support students with ADHD and other protected human rights needs. As the new Accessibility and Learning Strategies Specialist, you will help ensure equitable access to academic programs by delivering individualized learning strategies support, coordinating academic accommodations, and connecting students to appropriate campus resources to help them succeed in their programs. Your work will contribute to a culture of accessibility, inclusion, and evidence-based student support across the University.

This is an existing full-time role based at our New Westminster, B.C. campus, working four days on campus and one day remotely, supporting students across Yorkville University’s national campuses.

What’s in it for you

Impact on student success. This role offers the opportunity to play a meaningful part in helping students reach their academic potential. Acting as a bridge between learning strategies, accessibility accommodations, and campus resources, you will directly influence how students navigate their academic journey. Your work will help ensure students have the tools, strategies, and support they need to succeed in an accessible and inclusive learning environment.

A collaborative environment. You will work within a supportive, student-focused team and partner closely with faculty, program staff, and campus services to deliver holistic student support. This role offers the chance to build strong professional relationships across the University while contributing to a community committed to equity, accessibility, and inclusive education.

Professional growth and national exposure. Yorkville University operates across multiple provinces, providing exposure to post-secondary accessibility frameworks, assistive technologies, and evolving learning strategies that support diverse learners. Through workshops, resource development, and collaboration with faculty and student services teams, you will expand your expertise while helping shape accessible learning practices across the institution.

As our new Accessibility and Learning Strategies Specialist, you will:

  • Provide student support and learning strategies. You will apply individualized learning strategies tailored to students’ strengths, learning styles, and academic challenges, helping them build self-advocacy skills and effective study habits. You will provide one-on-one support, including executive functioning coaching related to time management, organization, and study skills. You will work with students from across Canada and support a diverse caseload with varying academic and accessibility needs.
  • Coordinate accommodations and accessibility support. You will review psychoeducational assessment reports, develop individualized academic accommodation plans, and coordinate the implementation of accommodations, including assistive technologies, extended exam or assignment times, and accessible materials. You will maintain accurate and confidential records of accommodation requests, approvals, implementation, and student progress.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff. You will work closely with faculty, program heads, and staff to support accessible learning practices and effective learning strategies for diverse learners. You will develop and deliver workshops, training materials, and resources that promote accessibility awareness and inclusive teaching practices.
  • Monitor and improve accessibility services. You will assess the effectiveness of learning strategies and accommodation supports, adjusting approaches as needed to improve student outcomes. You will maintain up-to-date resources related to accessibility and accommodations and advocate for inclusive practices that support student success across the academic community.

You bring:

  • The education and experience. You have a Bachelor’s degree in Education, Psychology, Social Work, Rehabilitation, or a related field. A Master of Education, Bachelor of Education, or related background with training or certification in learning strategies is considered an asset. You have experience applying learning strategies and supporting students with ADHD and executive functioning challenges within a secondary or post-secondary education environment.
  • The knowledge. You are familiar with learning strategies, Canadian disability legislation, accessibility regulations, assistive technology and post-secondary accommodation processes. You understand how assistive technologies and accessibility tools support diverse learners in both in-person and hybrid learning environments.
  • The analytical and technical skills. You are organized and detail-oriented, able to manage multiple priorities while maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive information with discretion. You are comfortable using assistive technologies, learning platforms, and digital tools that support accessibility, and you stay current with emerging technologies that enhance access and inclusion.
  • The interpersonal skills. You communicate with professionalism, empathy, and flexibility, adapting your approach to meet the needs of students, faculty, and staff. You build trusted relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds and are committed to fostering inclusive, accessible learning environments that support student success.
  • The adaptability. You are comfortable working occasional flexible hours when required to support students and campus initiatives.
