What is the Opportunity?We are seeking a strategic and results-driven Director, Channel Application Strategy to transform how millions of customers discover, explore, and engage with RBC through interactive digital experiences. You will shape the future of the interactive tools and applications at the heart of our public digital presence—calculators, estimators, branch locators, and other pre-transaction capabilities that help customers build confidence and make informed financial decisions.Your impact will be felt across millions of customer interactions annually, directly influencing conversion, engagement, and customer satisfaction. You will lead with a bold mandate:
transform customer experience through portfolio modernization and strategic innovation—rationalizing our application portfolio, establishing scalable operating models, and defining the multi-year vision for RBC's interactive capabilities.
Scope: Public-facing websites only (unauthenticated, pre-transaction). Does not include transactional applications, authenticated experiences, mobile apps, or sales flows.
What Will You Do?Drive Portfolio Transformation & Modernization- Own comprehensive assessment and rationalization of interactive applications—defining pathways to eliminate redundancy and create a leaner ecosystem.
- Lead modernization initiatives that improve performance, accessibility, and user experience while reducing technical debt.
- Deliver a Year 1 modernization roadmap prioritizing high-impact improvements aligned to customer needs.
- Partner with Architecture and IT to establish standardized frameworks that accelerate delivery.
Build Operating Models That Scale- Establish operating models, governance frameworks, and workflows that enable speed, quality, and control.
- Define clear decision rights, RACI models, and engagement frameworks between Business and IT.
- Design—in partnership with IT—sustainable support and delivery models for Digital Marketing-owned applications.
- Act as trusted bridge between business stakeholders and IT, translating customer needs into actionable requirements.
Shape Strategic Vision & Customer Experience- Define and own the multi-year strategy for interactive capabilities across RBC's public sites.
- Champion innovative tools that improve customer understanding, build trust, and enhance engagement.
- Represent interactive capability strategy in executive planning discussions, ensuring alignment around priorities.
- Partner with UX, design, analytics, SEO, and business stakeholders to ensure intuitive, coherent experiences.
Lead Through Partnership & Influence- Act as primary business liaison with Architecture, Infrastructure, Security, Analytics, UX, SEO, and Product teams.
- Partner with IT Operations, SRE, and Infrastructure teams on public web channel health—representing business priorities in site reliability discussions, incident response, and performance optimization.
- Serve as business representative in channel integration projects—ensuring the public web channel is effectively integrated with backend systems.
- Navigate complex stakeholder landscapes to identify, engage, and align partners across Digital Marketing, IT, and Operations.
Build & Lead a High-Performing Team- Lead a team responsible for portfolio management, operating model execution, and cross-functional partnership.
- Set clear objectives tied to rationalization progress, modernization outcomes, and customer experience.
- Develop team expertise in digital product thinking, architectural fluency, and stakeholder management.
- Foster shared accountability between Business and IT, ensuring collaborative problem-solving.
What do you need to succeed?Must-haves:- 7 to 10+ years in digital product management, portfolio management, or digital experience strategy with proven track record of delivering measurable value.
- Proven experience leading portfolio rationalization and modernization initiatives.
- Demonstrated ability to lead through influence in matrixed organizations—building consensus without direct authority.
- Previous experience building and leading high-performing teams.
- Experience building operating models, governance frameworks, and lifecycle management practices.
- Experience collaborating with IT to design support models for business-owned applications.
- Strong architectural fluency with front-end frameworks, APIs, CMS integration, and scalable design patterns.
- Exceptional relationship-building capabilities and proven track record influencing senior stakeholders.
- Expert at navigating complex stakeholder environments and engaging the right people at the right time.
- Excellent communication and storytelling skills—distilling complex technical concepts for non-technical audiences.
- Strategic thinker able to balance short-term operational demands with long-term vision.
- Portfolio management mindset: making data-driven decisions about retiring, consolidating, and prioritizing investments.
Nice-to-haves:- Deep understanding of interactive capabilities (calculators, estimators, location finders) in public web environments.
- Experience delivering multi-year modernization roadmaps aligned to business objectives and technical constraints.
- Strong business acumen with analytics and performance data interpretation.
- Experience with Agile and Waterfall delivery methodologies.
- Previous experience with digital analytics platforms (Google Analytics, Adobe Analytics).
