About Us

The Department of Growth & Development drives economic growth and productivity by creating the conditions for communities, businesses and households to thrive. The Department works with key partners to foster a dynamic environment that supports housing innovation and sector development, providing the necessary solutions to grow our population and economy.

The Department is also responsible for ensuring the availability of safe, suitable, and affordable housing for all Nova Scotians. Our work involves making strategic investments, leveraging new funding, and building on critical partnerships to help further position ourselves to meet current and future housing challenges.

About Our Opportunity

The Survivors of Gender Based Violence Benefit (SGBV) is jointly funded by the Province and the Government of Canada and provides eligible individuals and families who are fleeing or planning to flee gender-based violence with financial assistance for up to two years.

Under the direction of the Nova Scotia Housing Benefit Programs Manager, the SGBV Program Admin Officer will work collaboratively with colleagues, community, and referral agencies to provide support to individuals or families that have or are planning to leave their home due to acts of gender-based violence.

Primary Accountabilities

As the SGBV Program Administration Officer, you will:

  • Research, analyze, and verify information from a variety of sources.
  • Assess eligibility of individuals and families.
  • Perform case management of client subsidies including annual renewals and interim adjustments.
  • Provide advice and information to clients, the public, representatives, and referral agencies on behalf of the Department of Growth and Development regarding our various government programs and resources.
  • Provide input and feedback on policies, guidelines, directives and operational processes.

Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this position, you hold an undergraduate degree in addition to one (1) year of directly related experience in gathering, researching, and analyzing information. An equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered.

You are proficient in various computer software programs within Microsoft Office 365. An understanding of housing benefit programs, as well as a working knowledge of YARDI Property Management and ICM software, would be considered an asset.

Understanding the dynamics of gender-based violence, trauma-informed approaches and experience with stakeholder engagement are also considered assets.

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

Equivalency

We recognize equivalent combinations of training, education, and experience, providing opportunities for individuals with diverse backgrounds to contribute their skills and expertise. Equivalencies include, but are not limited to:

  • Completion of a related 2-year diploma and 3 years of related experience, or
  • At least five (5) years of related experience.

Applicants relying on education and experience equivalencies must demonstrate such equivalencies in their application
