The Opportunity
PRI Engineering is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Field Technician to support geotechnical and environmental projects. This full-time, permanent position is well suited for individuals who enjoy hands-on field work, including borehole drilling programs, environmental monitoring, and field data collection.
Reporting to Project Managers and working closely with field crews, the successful candidate will assist with subsurface investigations, environmental field programs, and technical reporting. This role is essential in supporting project delivery, maintaining data quality, and ensuring compliance with applicable standards and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Geotechnical Fieldwork
• Assist with borehole drilling operations (auger, rotary, and sampling programs)
• Support soil sampling, SPT testing, and field logging
• Monitor drilling activities and document subsurface conditions
• Coordinate with drill crews and project managers in the field
• Maintain field notes and assist with borehole log preparation
Environmental Field Work
• Support environmental permit application processes
• Conduct environmental monitoring (e.g., erosion and sediment control inspections)
• Complete groundwater and surface water sampling programs
• Assist with Environmental Assessment (EA) field components
• Support implementation and monitoring of ESC measures
Reporting & Documentation
• Prepare field reports and daily summaries
• Assist with technical reporting for geotechnical and environmental projects
• Maintain accurate records of field observations and test results
• Ensure compliance with applicable standards, permits, and health & safety requirements
Health, Safety & Quality
• Adhere to all company and regulatory health and safety requirements
• Follow established field procedures and best practices
• Maintain field equipment in good working condition
• Support a safe, organized, and efficient work environment
Qualifications
• Diploma or Degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or related field
• 0–3 years of relevant experience (co-op or internships considered an asset)
• Strong interest in field-based work and outdoor environments
• Valid driver's license with access to a vehicle
• Willingness to travel and work extended hours when required
