Job description

What We're Looking for

As architects and designers, we have an ambitious obligation; it's our job to reshape the quality and longevity of life on earth through the lens of design. At Michael Green Architecture (MGA), we are committed to designing solutions that push boundaries. Our values are rooted in inclusive collaboration, evolution, community, and most simply, a love for our planet.

We are looking for a Director, Practice Operations who will bring structure, clarity, and alignment to how we work. This role connects people, processes, and priorities across the firm to ensure projects and initiatives move forward effectively, while also strengthening the systems, controls, and compliance practices that support responsible and sustainable growth. If this sounds like you, this is an opportunity to play a key role in strengthening how MGA operates.

What You'll Get up to

  • Lead and improve internal operations, systems, and workflows across the firm
  • Support leadership in translating priorities into clear plans, timelines, and actions
  • Coordinate and drive cross-functional initiatives that span teams and studios
  • Bring consistency to planning, tracking, and accountability across projects and initiatives
  • Establish and strengthen operational standards, governance practices, and internal controls
  • Partner with Finance and studio leads to support project financial discipline, forecasting, and billing accuracy
  • Work closely with People & Culture to ensure alignment with internal policies, employment standards, and best practices
  • Support firm-wide compliance with professional practice requirements, contracts, and regulatory obligations across jurisdictions
  • Identify operational, financial, contractual, and compliance risks and bring forward practical, proactive solutions
  • Support audits, reporting requirements, and documentation standards to ensure accuracy and readiness
  • Support leadership meetings through agenda development, coordination, and follow-up
  • Support internal communication to ensure clarity, transparency, and alignment across the organization

What You Bring

  • 7–10+ years of experience in operations, project management, or professional services environments
  • Experience in architecture, design, engineering, or consulting is an asset
  • Post-secondary education in business, architecture, design, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience building or supporting operational processes, governance frameworks, and compliance practices
  • Familiarity with professional services contracts, regulatory environments, or multi-jurisdictional work is an asset
  • Strong organizational and execution skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Ability to bring structure to ambiguity without overcomplicating processes
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to influence and coordinate work across teams without direct authority
  • Practical, solutions-focused mindset with strong follow-through
  • Strong judgment and a proactive approach to risk identification and mitigation
  • Alignment with MGA's values and interest in contributing to our mission

Why This Role Matters

As MGA continues to grow, the complexity of our work, teams, and projects increases. This role ensures that strong ideas translate into consistent execution, that teams are aligned, and that operational, financial, and regulatory requirements are understood and met.

You will help create the conditions for our designers and project teams to do their best work by improving how we plan, communicate, and deliver, while also ensuring that our work is supported by clear processes, sound governance, and compliance with professional, contractual, and regulatory standards. This is a role that brings focus, follow-through, and accountability across the organization.

Who We Are

At MGA, we're curious, creative people designing sustainable spaces that matter. From cultural installations and private homes to campuses and community hubs, our work pushes the limits of technology and construction to benefit people and the planet. We're known internationally for our leadership in mass timber and low-carbon design, with projects like Google's first mass timber development in California, the new Royal BC Museum Collections and Research building, and a cultural hub in Gällivare, Sweden. Along the way, we've collected awards including four Governor General medals, and Architizer recently named us the 2025 Best Global Sustainable Firm.

But beyond the recognition, what drives us is simple: design has the power to shape how we live and the future we leave behind. That means creating work that challenges norms, thrives on collaboration, and keeps communities and the planet at the heart of everything we do.

What We're Working on

Our projects are diverse, meaningful, and full of opportunities to stretch your creativity. A sample of our ongoing projects include:

  • A surf pool clubhouse
  • Gulf Island hotel
  • Headquarters for an electric boat company
  • An airport terminal and restaurant
  • A reimagined children's library
  • Headquarters for an innovative non-profit focused on youth health and research
  • A new 75-room Ronald McDonald House to support families at BC Children's Hospital
  • Collaborations with First Nations communities on daycares, schools, youth spaces, and recreation centres

Why You'll Love it Here

MGA is an equal opportunity employer. We offer a competitive salary and benefits package (including our one-of-a-kind Adventure Bonus!) and the opportunity to grow in a collaborative and fun environment with our award-winning team, shaping the future of architecture and design. We are only accepting applications from candidates who can work with us in beautiful Vancouver, BC.

Salary Range: $125,000 – $145,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
