Position Responsibilities
The Facility Worker is responsible for providing day-to-day facility maintenance, minor repairs, inspections, custodial services, and general upkeep across multiple City-owned and City-leased facilities within the Recreation portfolio. The role supports safe, functional, and dignified environments for residents, staff, and visitors and plays a key role in maintaining regulatory compliance.
- Performing preventative maintenance on building systems, equipment, and fixtures to reduce service disruptions and equipment failure
- Conducting regular facility inspections, safety checks, and environmental health monitoring
- Completing minor repairs, adjustments, and maintenance tasks within scope and qualifications
- Performing custodial duties including cleaning and sanitizing common areas, washrooms, offices, and exterior spaces
- Identifying maintenance issues and escalating regulated or specialized work to contractors as required
- Coordinating access and supporting contractors performing licensed or specialized services
- Conducting fire and life safety checks and reporting hazards or deficiencies immediately
- Maintaining accurate records of completed maintenance, inspections, and safety checks
- Performing other related duties as assigned to support facility operations
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License
- Experience in facility maintenance, building operations, custodial services, or a related field
- Ability to perform physical work including lifting, bending, climbing, and standing for extended periods
- Basic computer skills for documentation and communication
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Strong problem‑solving skills and practical judgment
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
Assets
- Knowledge of building systems, basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC
- Familiarity with safety regulations, fire and life safety practices, and workplace health and safety standards
Hours
The standard workweek consists of an average of 40 hours, with the specific schedule being determined by the immediate supervisor.
Compensation
Starting salary $36.42 per hour as per the CUPE Collective Agreement.
