Job Title: HVAC Brazer
Job Description

The HVAC Brazer is responsible for cutting, assembling, brazing, and soldering copper, brass, stainless steel, carbon steel, and other tubing for HVAC systems. The role involves using flame torches to join refrigeration piping, ensuring leak-free connections while maintaining high-quality standards.

Responsibilities

• Perform brazing operations for refrigeration systems using appropriate brazing filler materials to join copper to copper, copper to brass, and copper to stainless steel.
• Utilize oxy-acetylene, oxy-propane, or oxy-natural gas torches for brazing.
• Apply standard brazing techniques, including nitrogen purging, to prevent oxidation and create strong, clean, leak-free braze joints.
• Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and work instructions to assemble HVAC units.
• Cut, fit, and join refrigerant lines, condensers, evaporators, and compressors.
• Ensure brazed joints meet company and industry standards, such as AHRI, NFPA, CSA, or UL.
• Conduct visual inspections and pressure tests, including nitrogen leak tests, to verify leak-free joints.
• Identify and repair defects, leaks, or poor connections before system assembly.
• Maintain high-quality workmanship in compliance with HVAC industry standards.
• Follow all workplace safety procedures, including PPE use and proper handling of torches, gases, and metals.
• Adhere to provincial and industry safety standards for brazing and welding operations.
• Keep workstations organized, clean, and free from fire hazards.
• Maintain, clean, and inspect torches, hoses, tanks, and brazing tools daily.
• Ensure proper storage and handling of compressed gases and flux materials.
• Report any equipment malfunctions to supervisors.

Essential Skills

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in brazing and soldering.
• Proficiency in oxy-acetylene, oxy-propane, and oxy-natural gas brazing.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and assembly instructions.
• Understanding of heat transfer, thermal expansion, and metal joining techniques.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Brazing Certification (TSSA or equivalent).
• HVAC Certification from a recognized college or technical school.
• Occupational Health and Safety Training.

Work Environment

This is a full-time position within a team that includes two welders, two refrigeration specialists, an electrician, and one maintenance worker. You will be working alongside over 20 colleagues, including mechanical and electrical assemblers. The workspace is shared with another company, divided by a wall, providing a collaborative and dynamic environment.

This is a Contract position based out of Brampton, ON.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $30.00/hr.
