The Henry N.R. Jackman Faculty of Law is one of the oldest professional faculties at the University of Toronto. Today, it is one of the world's great law schools. Your opportunity:
Reporting to the Assistant Dean, Graduate Programs and under the general supervision of the Research Steam Graduate Programs Manager, the incumbent is responsible for ensuring the effective and efficient administration of the Faculty’s three research based graduate programs (LL.M., M.S.L., and S.J.D.) by performing a wide range of duties in the areas of admissions, registration, program administration, scholarships and financial aid, thesis submission and supervision, and student relations.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing detailed information on program and/or course eligibility requirements, procedures, policies and deadlines
- Advising on the appropriateness, precedents and process for petitions and appeals, and suggesting alternative course of action as necessary
- Analyzing and making recommendations on award funding allocation
- Reviewing and assessing student records to confirm eligibility to graduate
- Reviewing and assessing admissions applications
- Determining which applications to refer to committee for selection
- Liaising with students and faculty to coordinate program activities
- Serving as a resource to others by providing (non-supervisory) job-related guidance
Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience
- Minimum four years of recent and related experience providing program administration within student services in a post-secondary environment, preferably in a Masters/Doctoral program.
- Experience drafting and interpreting policies.
- High level of understanding of/experience with admissions, financial aid & awards, graduation requirements and policies governed by School of Graduate Studies.
- Experience advising on the petition and appeals process.
- Experience with student academic advising related to admissions requirements, academic course selection, financial aid & awards, and other related processes.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to effectively interact with various stakeholders including students, faculty and staff.
- Strong computer skills including MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and data management skills.
- Proficient in the use of the University Administrative Management System (ROSI, ACORN) or other comparable systems.
- Demonstrated skills using SGS Admissions Database (SLATE).
- Demonstrated organizational and time management skills including the ability to effectively manage multiple competing priorities and deadlines.
- Solid communication skills, written and verbal.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Proven ability to track and report on statistical information including the creation of complex spreadsheets in Excel.
- Strong understanding of legal education, law school culture and the issues facing law students today.
