Payroll & Benefits Manager

Location: Calgary, AB

Type: Full‑Time

About the Role

Our client is looking for an experienced and detail‑driven Payroll & Benefits Manager to lead end‑to‑end payroll and benefits operations across Canada and the United States. Reporting into the HR function, this role plays a critical part in ensuring accurate payroll delivery, compliant benefits administration, and a positive employee experience.

This is an excellent opportunity for a hands‑on leader who combines strong technical expertise with a customer‑focused mindset and enjoys building efficient, high‑quality payroll and benefits processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee end‑to‑end payroll processing for Canadian and U.S. employees, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance
  • Manage and administer employee benefits programs, including health, dental, vision, life insurance, disability, and retirement plans
  • Lead open enrollment activities, employee communications, and benefits audits
  • Partner with benefits brokers and external vendors to manage renewals, plan changes, and compliance requirements
  • Ensure compliance with all Canadian and U.S. payroll, tax, and employment legislation, including statutory reporting and remittances
  • Lead, coach, and develop a payroll and benefits team, driving operational excellence and continuous improvement
  • Act as a trusted point of contact for payroll and benefits inquiries, escalations, and problem resolution

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Human Resources, Accounting, or a related field
  • 10+ years of payroll and benefits experience, including cross‑border (Canada & U.S.) payroll
  • 2+ years of people leadership or supervisory experience
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian and U.S. payroll legislation, taxation, and employment standards
  • Experience with multi‑jurisdictional payroll systems (Dayforce experience preferred)
  • Advanced Excel skills and strong attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills with a service‑oriented approach
