Senior Security Platform Engineer
Location: Toronto, Ontario
Work Arrangement: Hybrid (3 days onsite)
Work Hours: Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Job Description
We are seeking a Senior Security Platform Engineer to play a key role in strengthening the organization’s security posture. This is a hands‑on engineering role with a strong focus on owning, operating, and optimizing Akamai security platforms within a large, enterprise environment.
You will collaborate closely with Infrastructure, IT Operations, Enterprise Architecture, and application teams to protect systems, applications, and customer data. The ideal candidate is execution‑focused, technically deep, and comfortable operating independently in a fast‑paced, Agile environment.
Key Responsibilities
Akamai Platform Ownership
- Act as the primary SME for Akamai security services including WAF, Application & API Protection, Bot Manager, and DDoS
- Execute configuration changes, tuning, and custom rule development with minimal supervision
- Provide expert guidance to internal teams on Akamai‑related questions and best practices
Security Engineering & Operations
- Lead enterprise security initiatives, POCs/POVs, and implementation of security technologies
- Deploy, support, and maintain security platforms owned by the team
- Investigate and respond to security incidents; participate in on‑call rotation
- Develop and maintain security playbooks, policies, and knowledge documentation
Risk Management & Continuous Improvement
- Identify security risks and recommend mitigation strategies aligned with industry frameworks
- Enhance and maintain resiliency, scalability, and capacity of security platforms
- Support audit activities and provide SME‑level input on security controls
Agile Delivery & Collaboration
- Participate in Scrum ceremonies and deliver assigned work efficiently
- Collaborate with DevOps, application, and infrastructure teams to align security solutions with business needs
- Support smooth transition of new solutions into BAU operations
Must‑Have Skills & Experience
- 5–10 years of experience in information security or security engineering
- Recent, hands‑on experience with Akamai security technologies
- Strong background in incident response or detection engineering
- Experience with network security, web application firewalls, and endpoint security
- Solid understanding of secure network and system design
- System administration experience across Linux and Windows
- Familiarity with cloud or hybrid environments
- Experience delivering enterprise technology using Agile (Scrum/Kanban)
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly
Nice‑to‑Have
- Advanced Akamai expertise (custom rules, performance tuning)
- Security automation or scripting experience (Python, Bash, etc.)
- Experience with post‑incident forensics and root cause analysis
- Exposure to regulatory or compliance frameworks
- Experience producing security metrics and reporting
Candidate Profile
- Senior, hands‑on security engineer with current Akamai experience
- Execution‑focused (this is not a strategy or consulting role)
- Comfortable owning platforms and delivering day‑to‑day operational work
- Able to work independently in a complex enterprise environment
