Department: Information TechnologyWork schedule: Monday to Friday (35 hour work week) - Temporary – up to 8 months

Salary: $32.89 per hour, Pay Grade 2

Job Code: 4461

Employee Group: This is a CUPE Local 50 position

Number of Vacancies: 1

Join the City of Victoria’s Cybersecurity team and work closely with staff across the IT Department to help protect City systems and information. The Cybersecurity team supports City staff by providing training, sharing security best practices, and helping the organization respond to cyber risks. The team also researches new security tools and stays up to date on emerging threats by connecting with industry experts and professional networks.

The Cybersecurity Associate reports to the Manager, Cybersecurity, and supports the team with practical, hands‑on work. In this role, you will learn how the City uses cybersecurity tools and processes while contributing to real projects that improve the City’s security posture. Training, guidance, and support will be provided to help you build your skills and confidence.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Helping review the City’s current cybersecurity posture
  • Using cloud‑based security tools to help gather information about servers, workstations, and systems
  • Assisting with reports that identify security risks and recommend improvements
  • Supporting the development of implementation plans and working with the Manager to help carry out security enhancements

This role is well suited to someone with an interest or background in IT or cybersecurity who wants to learn by doing. You do not need to know every City system or tool on day one — you will receive training and mentorship to help you succeed.

We are looking for someone who is curious, detail‑oriented, and enjoys problem‑solving. If you are eager to grow your technical skills, work as part of a supportive team, and help improve the City’s cybersecurity in a meaningful way, we would love to hear from you.

Auxiliary status employees will be paid an additional 15% in lieu of vacation, holiday, sick leave beyond the statutory requirement, and other benefits, per the CUPE Local 50 Collective Agreement.

The successful candidate for this posting may be eligible for participation in a hybrid, work from home arrangement in alignment with the City’s Work from Home Policy. Such arrangements are determined with each employee and subject to change based on operational needs and policy direction.
