Job description
360°kids is a vitally important community agency serving all of York Region. We have been a leader in the delivery of innovative support services for more than 35 years as we work to improve the lives of unhoused and marginalized youth and families in York Region. At 360°kids, we provide a unique continuum of care approach with programs and services that are essential to the health and well-being of youth. These proven strategies help to keep youth safe by providing stable housing options with 360° wraparound supports.

The Individual Youth Counsellor will provide counselling support to 360°kids’ Black youth. The Individual Youth Counsellor will provide counselling in a trauma informed, client centered approach where access to assessment and supports/ resources are made available both within the 360°kids environment and in the external community. Counselling focuses on personal and social development; behavioural change; cultural demands and expectations; and reintegration of youth with their families or transitioning to independent living. The Counsellor works collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team to serve the needs of youth in a holistic manner within the 360° Kids organization, advocates for the rights and appropriate supports for the youth, and provides any necessary case management supports.

This a contract Role until December 2026.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Provides trauma informed counselling to 360°kids Black youth.
  • Support youth in resolving issues and/or fostering space to allow youth to develop to their maximum potential.
  • Work as an integral, collaborative, supportive member of small and larger staff groupings in the delivery of counselling services.
  • Supports Black youth in accessing additional resources and provides case management supports.
  • Provide clinical consultations and support to the members 360°Kids staff.
  • Participates in the intake process to our Residential Programs.
  • Collaborates with other 360°kids staff members to support clients with a wrap-around approach.
  • Evaluate effectiveness of the counselling plan and modify/revise as necessary.
  • Completes all mandatory recording and reporting including daily documentation, statistical data collection, and completing registration forms. Provides reports and related information to the Manager of Support Programs as required.
  • Maintains on-going supportive relationships with key stakeholders. Advocates with outside agencies in securing placements and client information as related to the individual cases.
  • Follows up with and connects with other agencies that support clients.
  • Represents the organization and program relationship as required with various segments of the community including schools, Children’s Aid Society, partner agency, clients, and parents.
  • With the Manager of Youth Mental Health Services, creates, and implements approved strategies and plans that will result in the achievement of the program’s goals and objectives.
  • Assist in the training of personnel and students, as applicable.
  • Along with the Manager of Youth Mental Health Services, provides leadership for the student practicum through team building and motivation of employees; oversees plans for the training and development of placement students.
  • Participates in regular weekly supervision meetings and performance appraisal meetings on a semiannual basis.
  • Attends training workshops and relevant conferences that pertain to the role.
  • Other duties as required.

Education & Skills required:
  • Master’s degree in social work, psychology or related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience required working with Black youth.
  • Clinical training and experience in individual counselling.
  • Experience with MS Office, with the ability to prepare, and write reports and maintain same.
  • Current first aid/CPR certification and Current broad record check (BRC ).
  • Car and valid driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract.
  • Therapeutic Crisis training (preferred) and Suicide Prevention training. (preferred).
  • Experience in assisting youth with psycho/social/physical, educational, emotional, and/or environmental issues in a variety of locations.
  • Knowledge of issues surrounding street involvement, homelessness, addictions & human trafficking.
  • Excellent assessment skills with experience responding to situations based on available information.
  • Possesses strong personal ethics and integrity, as well as, exceptional interpersonal skills, including influencing, consensus/team building, facilitation, negotiation, conflict resolution, management, leadership, motivation, delegation, coaching/mentoring, and empowerment.
  • Sound judgment, decision making, and problem-solving ability with the willingness to stand behind and take responsibility for decisions and actions.
  • Case management skills including record keeping, client service, building capacity through team approach.
  • Ability to work independently as well as a team member in a dynamic, complex environment and organize time and workload effectively.
  • Writing and speaking French is an asset.
