Job description
  • Now Hiring : Summer Climbing Camp Instructors*
  • Location : * Mill Bay, BC (Hosted at the Brentwood College School facilities)
  • Compensation : * $25 / hour (Approx. $1,000 / week)
  • Perks : * Lunch included & access to world-class facilities.
  • Your Opportunity*
  • Brentwood College School is seeking two dynamic, safety-conscious Contract Climbing Instructors to lead our indoor rock-climbing summer camps. This is an excellent summer gig for experienced climbers to spend 2 or 3 weeks in July on our beautiful oceanfront campus, inspiring the next generation of athletes (ages 8–14) on our premier 40-foot indoor wall.

    • The Summer Experience*

This is more than just a gig contract; it’s an opportunity to immerse yourself in a professional, high-energy programming environment. As a subcontractor supporting our summer season, you’ll work in a team of two certified instructors to deliver high-quality technical instruction while fostering a supportive and "unmatched" camp experience. Climbing camps fill up almost immediately after advertising. High interest may allow for a third week of camp. When you aren't on the wall, you'll be enjoying a delicious lunch in our spectacular dining hall overlooking the ocean and utilizing our modern on-campus facilities.

    • Key Responsibilities*
    • Conduct daily equipment inspections and ensure all participants adhere to strict safety protocols on our 40-foot wall
    • Teach fundamental and intermediate skills, including knot tying, belay technique, movement efficiency, and basic lead climbing (if applicable)
    • Develop engaging daily lesson plans, climbing games, and "challenge by choice" activities to keep campers motivated
    • Act as a positive role model, encouraging perseverance, teamwork, and confidence-building
    • Work closely with your co-instructor to manage equipment, logistics, and daily camp flow
    • What You Bring*
    • ACMG (Association of Canadian Mountain Guides) Climbing Gym Instructor Level 2 (or equivalent) preferred
    • Previous experience coaching youth or working in a climbing gym environment
    • Mastery of top-rope systems, belay devices, and harness fitment.
    • Minimum Standard First Aid & CPR-C
    • High energy, patience, and the ability to adapt instruction for different age groups and skill levels
    • Availability : * Must be available for two weeks with the potential for a third week in July if you are available. August is also a possibility if July can’t work for you
    • Mandatory Requirement : Background Check*

Successful candidates must provide a *Criminal Record Clearance* *Letter* (Vulnerable Sector)

    • We will accept a copy of a valid clearance sent directly from a current employer
    • Otherwise, a new Clearance Letter must be requested at the expense of the Climbing Instructor
    • How to Apply*

Ready to reach new heights this summer? Please submit your resume and a brief cover letter outlining your climbing and teaching experience to *Stacey.Shrout@brentwood.ca.*
