Job description

Responsibilities:

  • Establishes and maintains good human relations with professional and non-professional staff, residents, families, volunteers, and the community.

  • Respects and uses sensitivity in the spiritual, cultural and ethnic aspects of a resident’s life.

  • Provides assistance and service for facility’s catered events.

  • Assists in the menu planning and recipe development activity by providing input on resident acceptability.

  • Ensures that any changes to the menu are posted on the production schedule and the menus both paper and board, before the commencement of making the meal.

  • Responsible for the presenting an appetizing and appealing meal to the resident and ensuring that the appropriate temperature of the foods is maintained (hot meals are hot and cold are cold).

  • Responsible for cleaning, maintenance and safety of all kitchen equipment such as stove, deep fryer, etc.

  • Attends departmental staff meetings.

  • Responsible for collecting food samples from every meal properly labeling and store in the fridge for up to one week.

  • Provides monitoring of risks such as correct temperature, quality, quantity, appearance and portion size of meals.

  • Responsible for working safely in compliance with accepted safe work practices, procedures and legislated health and safety standards.

  • Does meal rounds during service period.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Compliance with all health and safety standards.

  • Personal and professional integrity, appearance, and demeanor.

  • Competence in written and spoken English.

  • Reliable, committed, even-tempered and able to work with others.

  • Multilingual facility an asset.

Required Knowledge and Experience:

  • Two years cooking experience with at least one year in a health organization.

  • Knowledge of Canada’s Food Guide, basic MHLTC nutritional requirements and infection control.

  • Understanding of geriatrics in an ethno-cultural environment.

Required Professional Designation/Certificate:

  • Culinary Arts Diploma.

  • Food Handler Certificate.
