Job Description

About the Opportunity

Ecora Consultants Ltd. is seeking an experienced and driven Environmental Services Discipline Lead to join our senior leadership team. This is a pivotal role that carries meaningful responsibility: you will be the strategic and operational head of our Environmental Services discipline across our British Columbia and Alberta offices, overseeing two core practice areas Biology & Natural Sciences and Contaminated Sites.

This position is best suited to a seasoned environmental professional who is as comfortable reviewing a complex environmental assessment as they are building a business case, mentoring a junior scientist, or presenting to a senior client. You will report directly to the Chief Operating Officer and work in close collaboration with Sector Leads, Account Managers, and other Discipline Leads to strengthen technical excellence, operational efficiency, and disciplined growth.

Ecora's Environmental Services team delivers comprehensive consulting services in support of infrastructure development, resource management, municipal and provincial initiatives, and private sector projects. Our team works closely with provincial government agencies, municipalities, First Nation communities, developers, and multidisciplinary project teams throughout BC and Alberta.

What You'll Be Responsible For

Operational Leadership

  • Lead and implement continuous operational improvements across the Environmental Services discipline
  • Oversee monthly Profit & Loss (P&L) performance for the discipline and review weekly performance metrics with the COO
  • Maintain labour forecasts and workload planning to ensure appropriate resourcing across BC and Alberta offices
  • Lead weekly discipline meetings and ensure structured project milestone reviews at 30%, 60%, and 90% completion
  • Coordinate resources across internal and external teams, including subconsultants and partner firms

Technical Leadership

  • Serve as the final technical authority for high-stakes environmental documentation across both the Biology & Natural Sciences and Contaminated Sites practice areas
  • Lead senior-level technical reviews of environmental assessments, impact statements, remediation plans, and regulatory compliance reports
  • Audit complex project deliverables and maintain Ecora's standard of technical rigour and quality
  • Ensure all work aligns with applicable regulatory requirements and industry standards in both British Columbia and Alberta (including MOENV, AER, EPEA, and relevant federal frameworks)

People & Team Development

  • Provide active mentorship and structured professional development to team members across both practice areas and multiple offices
  • Identify training needs and contribute to the development of internal training resources and quality management systems
  • Foster a collaborative, accountable, and high-performing team culture

Business Development & Strategy

  • Collaborate on business development initiatives, including proposal preparation, client relationship management, and opportunity identification
  • Contribute to long-term strategic planning for the Environmental Services discipline in alignment with Ecora's broader growth objectives
  • Support marketing and positioning initiatives that reflect the depth and breadth of the discipline

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Biology, Geology, or a closely related field
  • Minimum 10 years of consulting experience in environmental services, with demonstrated expertise across both biological/natural sciences and contaminated sites
  • Minimum 5 years of leadership or management experience, including P&L responsibility or equivalent operational accountability
  • Registered professional designation P.Eng., P.Geo., R.P.Bio., P.Ag., or equivalent; candidates holding designations that bridge both practice areas, or who can demonstrate strong management of cross-disciplinary teams, are particularly encouraged to apply
  • Strong working knowledge of environmental regulations, permitting, and regulatory frameworks in British Columbia and Alberta
  • Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and teams with competing priorities
  • Demonstrated expertise in budgeting, scheduling, forecasting, risk management, and resource planning
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical content to diverse audiences
  • High level of accountability, professional integrity, and organizational discipline

Assets & Preferred Experience

  • Experience on multidisciplinary infrastructure and development projects
  • Familiarity with provincial and federal environmental assessment processes in BC and Alberta
  • Experience developing internal quality management systems and training resources
  • Demonstrated contribution to strategic growth planning and marketing initiatives in a consulting environment
  • Strong understanding of professional practice standards and risk management in environmental consulting
  • Intermediate First Aid Certification

Why Ecora

At Ecora, we believe the best consulting work happens when talented people are given real responsibility, strong support, and the space to lead. As a growing multidisciplinary firm with offices across British Columbia and Alberta, we offer our senior professionals meaningful influence over the direction of their discipline not just the day-to-day.

You'll find at Ecora:

  • A leadership culture that values technical depth, strategic thinking, and honest collaboration
  • The opportunity to shape how a discipline grows its people, its practices, and its market presence
  • A collegial, values-driven team that takes its work seriously and supports one another
  • Career growth commensurate with your ambition and contribution
