This position will be based in Labrador West and the schedule will be Monday to Friday with potential to change to 7/7 shift. Relocation is required and assistance can be provided.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Support the Mine Technical Services group as required. Role will adapt and change to best compliment individual and team. Primary duties will be engineering/planning, related to daily and weekly tasks.
- Develop mine plans including auxiliary work, dig and dump plan. This will include mine tours and interactions with operations for development of plans.
- Produce Daily, Weekly, and 3 Month mine plans.
- Provide support of Drill and Blast design, implementation, and improvement as well as the management of explosive contractors.
- Manage projects in the mine, including mine development, crushed stone, etc.
- Identify areas requiring mine development in advance of mining activities, create scopes of work and provide budgetary estimates for the required work.
- Work with Contractors and Mine operations to achieve the desired results in safety, cost, and quality.
- Design waste dumps and stockpiles and manage their development.
- Monitor mine progression for adherence to the mine plan and advise on plan modifications if deviations are required.
- Provide input on the dewatering strategy and planning as required.
- Ensure maximum productivity and extraction rates by optimizing mining methods, procedures & equipment.
- Participate in the selection process of new Mining equipment.
- Total awareness of mine safety conditions, whether at road, dump, or face and immediately intervening/reporting of deficiencies (see it, own it mentality).
- Ensure that all safety standards, policies, and procedures are being followed in areas present, including compliance to Occupational Health and Safety Act, Mining Regulations and policies of other regulatory agencies.
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Degree in Mining Engineering, or a related field
- Preferably 2 years experience in mining (Mine Planning or Drill and Blast prefered)
- Strong PC skills; proficient in mining software such as Vulcan/Deswik.
- Experience with Power BI, SQL Scripting, and managing and developing reports and databases is considered advantageous
- Knowledge of all facets of the mining industry, including measurement and operations safety management and environmental regulations
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to meet deadlines
- Strong listening and questioning capabilities
- Strong problem-solving skills
- May consider an equivalent combination of education and experience
Education & Experience:
- Degree in Mining Engineering, or a related field
- Ability to be registered as an E.I.T or P. Eng. or eligible to be registered in the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador prefered
