Summary

We are looking for a hands-on Lead Software Engineer to drive day-to-day engineering quality and execution for the ElectrifiedGrid (EG) product. Reporting to the Product Tech Lead, this role leads PR reviews, design reviews, testing standards, and technical coaching for junior and intermediate engineers.

This role owns application and data engineering quality. Infrastructure and CI/CD platform implementation are managed by the DevOps team, with close partnership required.

What will your typical day look like?

You will review pull requests, guide implementation quality, and lead design discussions for upcoming application changes. You will work closely with developers to ensure new features meet functional requirements, coding standards, and testing standards before release.

You will partner with Product, Data, QA, and DevOps to convert requirements into reliable technical delivery plans, support release readiness, and drive post-incident learning and improvements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Own day-to-day PR review quality, turnaround, and consistency of engineering standards.
  • Lead technical design reviews for features, refactors, and data model/pipeline changes.
  • Define, document, and enforce development standards, including coding conventions, review checklists, and definition-of-done criteria.
  • Define and enforce testing requirements across unit, integration, and data-quality validation layers.
  • Mentor junior and mid-level engineers through code feedback, pairing, and architecture guidance.
  • Establish and maintain engineering guardrails for reliability, security, and performance in Python/PySpark services.
  • Support incident triage, root-cause analysis, and preventive engineering improvements.
  • Coordinate technical delivery across modules and maintain stable data contracts/interfaces.
  • Translate advanced mathematical concepts (e.g. probabilistic forecasting) into efficient, production-ready code.
  • Develop, debug, and optimize complex algorithms and data pipelines for large-scale grid data sets.

About the team

ElectrifiedGrid is a SaaS electric infrastructure planning tool built by Deloitte and utility partners around the world that combines a digital twin of a power grid with geospatially detailed technology adoption and load forecast modelling to assess the impacts of emerging electro-technology loads on electricity infrastructure.

ElectrifiedGrid has been successfully implemented by utilities globally and is actively helping utilities, governments, and regulators understand geospatial demand changes, forecast new electro-technologies, conduct integrated system planning, and enhance rate case filings and investments.

The team reports to Wonder, Deloitte Canada’s internal venture studio, as well as Deloitte’s Belgian member firm.

Enough about us, let’s talk about you

You are someone with these required skills, experience & qualifications:

  • 7+ years of experience in software engineering, focused on backend services and data engineering, including production data pipelines and cloud infrastructure.
  • Proven leadership in designing and scaling cloud-native data and software platforms, driving technical direction, and mentoring engineers across teams.
  • Solid software engineering fundamentals (clean code, testing, code reviews, and maintainable design)
  • Strong backend and data engineering skills with Python, PySpark, and PostgreSQL; experience building forecasting/analytics pipelines by operationalizing methodologies defined by data scientists and exposing results via well-structured APIs for frontend and downstream consumers.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD concepts and working effectively within established delivery pipelines.
  • Working knowledge of AWS and cloud operations (e.g., S3, RDS, IAM, monitoring/logging); experience collaborating with platform/infra teams, with IaC (Terraform/CloudFormation) as a plus.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • A mindset focused on continuous learning, growth, and sharing knowledge.
  • Solid knowledge of probability, statistics, linear algebra, and numerical methods.

It would be great for you to have some of these nice to haves aswell:

  • Experience in utility, energy analytics, forecasting, or grid-impact domains.
  • Exposure to multi-repo engineering environments.
  • Familiarity with Spark performance tuning and large-scale data-quality practices.
