About the position

Duties
The Resource Management Officer I (EG-03) delivers technical and analytical services in applied science, monitoring and active management related to a resource management program. You will work as part of the Resource Conservation team to plan, monitor, assess and restore ecosystem health and functioning.Wildfire Risk Reduction Project Officer - You will assist the Wildfire Risk Reduction Project Manager with applying or promoting the 7 FireSmart™ disciplines in Jasper National Park. You will conduct geospatial and data analysis and prepare geospatial and technical products to support wildfire risk reduction, education, and communication activities. You will assist with project surveillance and work to ensure mitigations are used and environmental harms are avoided during fuel management projects. You will contribute to forestry assessments, treatment area layout, research for ensuring best practices, and assist with stakeholder coordination. You will be expected to pass the wildland fire fitness standard for Type 2 firefighters, and participate in fire-related training, application of prescribed fires, and may contribute to wildfire responses on behalf of Parks Canada. Jasper National Park is accepting applications for anticipated term positions at the EG-03 level in the Resource Conservation Function. Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance - All employees of the Federal Government are required to meet Reliability Status; details of the screening process and applications will be provided at the time of interviews.

• Possession and maintenance of a valid class 5 driver's license (Class L, N or other graduated licenses will not be accepted);
• Will be required to undergo and pass pre-placement and periodic medical checks;
• Possession and maintenance of a current Standard First Aid Certificate (minimum 40 hour course) and CPR certificate.

Operational Requirements

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Completion of the Type 2 wildland firefighter fitness standard;
• Willing and able to wear a Parks Canada uniform and prescribed protective equipment;
• Willing and able to work and/or travel in varied terrain, weather conditions, isolated locations and by various means of transportation;
• Willing and able to work irregular hours, overtime, weekends and/or statutory holidays and provincial/territorial holidays, when required;
• Willing and able to obtain certification in the operation of various forms of ground (e.g. all-terrain vehicles) and marine (motorized and non-motorized vessels) as required.

Completion of a post-secondary program related to environmental and/or natural sciences (e.g. forestry, ecology, natural resources, geography), or an acceptable combination of post-secondary education, training and experience in a field related to the position.

EXPERIENCE:
• Travelling or working in remote mountain wilderness areas;
• In the use of ESRI Arc GIS software;
• In using forestry survey and data/sample collection equipment and diverse means of transportation;
• In forestry operations.Applied / assessed at a later dateKNOWLEDGE:
● of specialized technical and scientific equipment operation and maintenance requirements
● of terrestrial/marine environment, vegetation and wildlife characteristics, as well as weather conditions specific to the Jasper National Park’s area;
● of forestry management activities.ABILITIES:
• to evaluate forestry operations and mitigate harmful environmental impacts;
• to use a variety of computer applications in the development and maintenance of databases, especially geodatabases;
• to conduct analysis of spatial and non-spatial data using various media and software;

• in remote field sampling activities over multi-day field-based research or resource management (active management, monitoring, research);
• leading and delivering ecological research or monitoring projects;
• leading or delivering restoration or research projects related to forestry, fire management, restoration, or conservation.
