About the position

Duties
Implements an applied science fire management program. Leads a dedicated team for fire operations, wildland fuel management, prescribed fire and wildfire suppression services in support of field units’ fire management programs. Work environment

Conditions of Employment (Must be met prior to employment)• Possession and maintenance of a valid Class 5 driver’s licence
• Possession and maintenance St. John’s Ambulance Standard First Aid Certificate (or equivalent) and CPR certificate
• Will be required to undergo and pass pre-placement and periodic medical checks, including:
 Occupational Health Assessment for firefighters
 Moderate fitness status as outlined in the Parks Canada Fire Management Workplace Fitness Capacity Test SOP

Operational Requirements

Operational Requirements• Willingness to wear a Parks Canada uniform and prescribed protective equipment
• Willingness to work and/or travel in varied terrain, weather conditions, isolated locations and by various means of transportation
• Willingness to work irregular hours, overtime, weekends and/or statutory holidays and provincial/territorial holidays, when required
• Willingness to obtain certification in the operation of various forms of ground (e.g. all-terrain vehicles) and marine (motorized and non-motorized vessels) as required

Your application must clearly explain how you meet the followingEducationED1: Graduation with a degree from a recognized university with specialization in environmental and/or natural sciences (e.g. biology, ecology) or acceptable combination of education, training, and experience in a field related to the position. Certificates:
• Possess S-230 Intermediate Wildland Fire Behaviour or Alberta Wildfire Crew Leaders course or equivalent Proof of education will be required at time of interview

ExperienceEX1: Experience in collecting, manipulating and analyzing spatial and non-spatial data related to fire management.
EX2: Experience in managing contracts related to fire management activities
EX3: Recent and significant, (recent being in the past 5 years and significant being more than 2 years) experience in developing and maintaining collaborative partnerships related to fire management.
EX4: Recent and significant (recent being in the past 5 years and significant being more than 2 years) experience in leadership roles in delivering fire management services such as wildfire response, prescribed fire and wildfire risk reduction
EX5: Experience in technical writing reports and plans related to fire management
EX6: Recent and significant (recent being in the past 5 years and significant being more than 2 years) experience in fire line supervision
EX7: Experience travelling and working in the field and performing various fire line dutiesKnowledgeK1: Knowledge of Parks Canada’s vision, mandate and corporate objectives, especially as they relate to conservation and visitor safety in national parks
K2: Knowledge of key Government of Canada and Parks Canada acts, policies, programs and procedures utilized in natural resource management for ecological integrity as well as human resources, contracting, and occupational health and safety as it relates to wildland fire management.
K3: Knowledge of climate, geography, vegetation and facilities specific to the location and surrounding area, particularly in the context of fire management
K4: Knowledge of fire management strategies and tactics for both wildland and prescribed fires and delivering related training
K5: Knowledge and application of the Canadian Forest Fire Danger Rating System
K6: Knowledge of and application of the Incident Command System (ICS)Abilities A1: Ability to plan, implement, and coordinate cross-functional delivery of fuel management, wildfire and prescribed fire operations
A2: Ability to coordinate, organize, supervise, and deliver training programs for a team of fire operations specialists
A3: Ability to monitor weather and fire indices and make appropriate decisions regarding fire preparedness
A4: Ability to represent Parks Canada and develop collaborative partnerships
A5: Ability to communicate in writing to prepare briefing notes and scientific/ technical reports
A6: Ability to work effectively under stressful conditions
A7: Ability to conduct field studies on factors impacting on fire management (e.g., topography, vegetation growth, climate, etc.)Personal Suitability PS1 : Personally connects with others
