The role

Receiving general direction from the Manager of Human Resources, this role supports the city’s overall Occupational Health and Safety programs and initiatives. With a focus on in-house training, this position plays a critical role in maintaining compliance and promoting a strong safety culture.

The ideal candidate

• Graduation from a recognized program in health, safety and/or environmental science or engineering and/or 2-3 years’ experience for the administration of an OHS management program.
• Experience in delivering group training.
• Approved by WorkplaceNL to deliver certification training for various high-risk activities such as Confined Space Entry, Fall Protection, Traffic Control Persons, Power Line Hazards, etc.
• Professional safety designation such as the CHSC or CRSP would be an asset.
• Excellent computer skills and proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook & Access).
• Must possess a valid driver's license for the Province of Newfoundland and must be capable of being insured and maintaining continuity under the City's normal insurance policy.
• Ability to communicate effectively with members of the public in a responsible and professional manner.
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and productive working relationships.
• Ability to contribute as a team player with personal commitment to the City’s mission, values and guiding principles and safety.
