DeVry Greenhouses is seeking a Health & Safety Lead to join our People & Culture team. In this role, you will own and evolve our Health & Safety program across operations in BC, AB, and MI. This role is responsible for ensuring our workplaces are safe, compliant, and continuously improving – while also strengthening our focus on the “Health” side of Health & Safety, including prevention, well-being, and proactive initiatives. You will play a key role in maintaining our strong safety foundation (including COR certification), while identifying opportunities to elevate our programs, processes, and overall safety culture. You’ll work closely with internal teams to ensure safety is integrated into how we work – not just how we comply.

Own the Health & Safety program across BC, AB, and MI operations (consistency & effectiveness)
Maintain and continuously improve policies/procedures/systems to strengthen H&S outcomes
Partner with leadership to develop and track annual health & safety goals and initiatives
Ensure compliance with WorkSafeBC, Alberta OHS/WCB, MIOSHA, and other applicable regulations, including timely responses to inspections, orders, and regulatory requirements
Maintain COR certification and support audits and inspections
Stay current with regulatory changes and implement updates as needed
Work with external partners (e.g., AgSafeBC) to stay informed on best practices and updates
Conduct regular workplace inspections (greenhouses, nurseries, facilities)
Identify and assess risks related to environmental conditions, equipment use, repetitive strain, and chemical/biological exposure
Implement effective risk control measures (hierarchy of controls)
Lead incident investigations (injuries, near misses, exposures)
Identify root causes and implement corrective actions
Oversee accurate and timely completion and submission of required regulatory documentation
Track trends and provide insights to leadership
Coordinate return-to-work programs and support injury management processes, focusing on safe, supportive, and sustainable reintegration for employees
Identify and lead initiatives to proactively improve employee health, well-being & injury prevention
Address key risks such as heat stress, environmental exposure, ergonomics, and MSI prevention
Collaborate with internal teams to strengthen the health component of the program
Lead, coordinate, and deliver safety training programs (e.g., WHMIS, PPE, equipment, etc.)
Ensure certifications and training records are maintained
Promote safety awareness and continuous learning through ongoing education & communication
Develop and maintain emergency response plans and procedures
Coordinate drills and ensure readiness across sites
Support first aid programs, documentation, and injury response processes
Co-chair Joint Health & Safety Committees (BC & AB), including developing agenda and minutes
Track and maintain corrective action plan items and follow up on safety concerns
Promote employee participation and engagement in safety initiatives
Foster a strong, proactive safety culture across the organization
Maintain accurate records (training, inspections, incidents, audits)
Provide regular reporting on safety performance and trends
Support leadership with insights and recommendations
Work closely with Operations, People & Culture, and management/leadership teams
Actively contribute to the broader People & Culture team – supporting and owning initiatives, events, and shared priorities in a highly collaborative environment
3+ years of experience in a health & safety role (agriculture or similar industry preferred)
Strong knowledge of WorkSafeBC and Alberta OHS regulations
Experience with COR certification and audits, as well as familiarity with COR audit software
First Aid certification (Intermediate required)
Strong judgement and ability to handle sensitive situations
Highly organized with strong attention to detail
Ability to take ownership and work independently
Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
Positive, can-do attitude with a commitment to safety and continuous improvement

Hourly wage range: $26 – $30 per hour (based on experience)
