About the Role:

Reporting to the Manager, Student Financial Services& A/R, the Business Analyst analyzes the daily activities of the financial services department and serves as a resource person for the department and other Brock departments, basing answers on policies of the department and University, and knowledge of the University management information systems. The incumbent also takes the lead role in the monitoring and collection of outstanding student accounts, communicating directly with students and parents, preparing files, and sending past due accounts to theappropriate collectionagency.

TheBusiness Analystwill:

  • Research industry best practices and make recommendations for enhancing Brock’s student financial services and accounts receivable practices, including student accounts, non-student receivables, tuition billing, financial aid and awards distribution, credit balance analysis, student refunds, credit risk policies,etc;

  • Program the initiation of student assessments and review of charged items; work closely with ITS to resolve issuesin a timely manner;

  • Update financial system tablesrequiredfor student assessments each term;

  • Set-up systems toassistin the accounting of special programs;

  • Run and analyze monthly interest chargesand run and close year end;

  • Conduct research and analysis on tuition computer system when coding causes problems with student accounts; test/open/close student financial history;

  • Plan and communicate important dates for Assessment/Notification/Payment Due/Interest/Withdrawal Dates;

  • Develop and update testing protocols to ensure for proper T2202andT4A tax forms;

  • Calculate and process manual adjustments to reflect changes and exceptions processed by the Office of the Registrar and Enrolment Services (ORES), Housing Services, the Co-Op office, IELP, etc.;

  • Notify and track all students with outstanding accounts to collect as much tuition as possible in house before sending it to the collection agency for collections;

  • Track issues, including student assessment calculation errors, incorrectly processed accounts, service challenges, escalation, and collections/legal recourse;

  • Enforce policy of no further registration untilpreviousbalance is paid;

  • Arrange joint meetings withORESto resolve common issues;

  • Keep other departments informed of changes in Accounts Receivableprocedures andStudent Finance Office policies;

  • Prepare PowerPoint presentationsand attend Open House, answerquestions for studentsand parentsregardingtuition, ancillary fees, withdrawal fees, payment methods,deadlinesand student accounts in general;

  • Train students, studentstaffandBrock CentralstaffregardingStudent Account Receivables.

KeySkills andExperience:

  • ABachelor’sdegree in a related field;

  • Accounts receivable, collections, or banking experience in a large organization, preferably educational, publicsectoror broad servicesectorcustomer experience;

  • Demonstrated knowledge of large database systems, including knowledge of queries;

  • Ability to input data with speed and accuracy;

  • Ability to explain the Accounts Receivable system to others with clarity;

  • Strongworking knowledge of Excel andMS Office programs;

  • Ability to develop andmaintainwebsites;

  • Solidunderstanding of accounting to recognize the impact of adjusting entries;

  • Knowledge of privacy legislation and how it applies to the university environment;

  • Ability to remain calm, factual, and neutral in all interactions and consistently implement university policies;

  • Understandingall oftheStudent Accounts and Financial Aiddepartment staff functions.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, sponsoring agencies, andother partners;

  • Excellent customer service, diplomacy, and conflict resolution skills;

  • Use of judgement and creative thinking to make suggestions and decisions for dealing with complicated student accounts.

Preferred or Asset Skills:

  • Knowledge of Brock’s Student system and other areas of the university.

SalaryandTotal Rewards:

  • Job GradeK, Salary Scale ($61,286-$99,384);

  • Target Hiring Range:$61,286-$67,000

  • Thisis a permanent position thatincludes:
