Trans Mountain is seeking a collaborative, motivated, and values‑driven individual to join our dynamic team as an Instrumentation Technician. In this position, you will play a key role in providing instrumentation, operational, and emergency response support in a multi‑skilled work environment that promotes public safety, environmental stewardship, and pipeline integrity.

The successful candidate will demonstrate strong technical expertise in instrumentation calibration, troubleshooting, control systems, and maintenance documentation. This position offers the opportunity to support the safe and reliable operation of critical pipeline and terminal infrastructure while working closely with Operations, Maintenance, and other technical groups

The Instrumentation Technician will follow a Monday to Friday schedule working 8.58 hour per day with every second Friday off. This position will be based at the Stony Plain Pump Station and will report to the Operations Supervisor.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, calibrate, troubleshoot, and maintain process instrumentation, communication networks, and control equipment, including flow computers, tank gauging systems, replace with pressure transmitters, fire and gas detection, hydrocarbon detectors, nuclear densitometers, and associated systems.
• Utilize electrical and instrumentation drawing sets and schematics; update as‑built documentation as required.
• Support programming and troubleshooting of Local Operator Interfaces and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), with Rockwell PLC and HMI software as the current Trans Mountain standard.
• Provide instrumentation support and maintenance to ensure equipment and system reliability.
• Perform and document instrumentation maintenance tasks as defined by maintenance tracking software.
• Analyze, interpret, and apply information from SCADA systems, HMI displays, and P&ID drawings to ensure safe facility operations.
• Support Emergency Response initiatives, including required training and participation in exercises and scenarios.
• Provide operational support to ensure throughput and system reliability.
• Assist other technical groups, including maintenance and operations, as needed.
• Provide contractor oversight and performance monitoring.

Qualifications and Professional Experience

• High school completion.
• Journeyman Instrumentation Technician (Red Seal) required.
• Minimum 3–5 years of industrial experience.
• Experience or familiarity with process control and hydro testing is an asset.
• Understanding of Canadian Electrical Code requirements is an asset.
• Commissioning and start‑up experience are an asset.
• Demonstrated commitment to personal safety, protection of company assets, and public safety.
• Proficiency in Microsoft D365, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
• A track record of delivering high‑quality work, managing competing priorities, and supporting key business processes or operational functions.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with colleagues and stakeholders from a variety of backgrounds and levels across the organization.
• Effective communication skills, including the ability to convey information clearly, respectfully, and professionally.
• Proven organizational skills with the ability to manage priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain attention to detail in a fast‑paced environment.
• Commitment to inclusive practices and a willingness to contribute positively to a collaborative and supportive workplace culture.

Working Conditions

• Must have a valid Class 5 driver’s license.
• May need to provide support outside of regular business hours and/or on the weekend.
• Availability for participation in an on‑call rotation as required.
