Job Description

In this role you will work at the intersection of technology, innovation, and strategy to safeguard the ideas and solutions that drive our success in the defence and aerospace industry. Partnering with engineering, legal, and business teams, you’ll ensure IP is effectively maintained, leveraged, and aligned with business and program objectives. You’ll be responsible for identifying, managing, and protecting the company’s IP assets, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets. A key focus will be creating and refining tools and processes to track and manage IP assets across various information enclaves, including secure information environments, and enhancing the existing management of licensing and data rights.

As part of the Commercial Services team, you’ll also contribute to initiatives that enhance commercial strategy and governance. This is a great opportunity for an IP professional who thrives in a technically complex environment and wants to make an impact on programs that shape defence and aerospace innovation.

  • Participate as a key member of proposal or program teams to address IP requirements.

Advice and Collaboration

  • Provide expert advice on IP matters, drawing on current knowledge of IP laws and regulations.
  • Respond to internal and external inquiries regarding IP issues.
  • Work with Program Managers to identify, categorize, and safeguard IP generated through projects and innovation activities.

Strategy and Valuation

  • Develop and implement IP strategies that align with business priorities and drive long‑term value.
  • Identify potential IP assets and evaluate the commercial potential of new technologies.
  • Support the legal team in defending against potential IP infringements.
  • Lead efforts to create and maintain tools for tracking IP assets, monitoring compliance, and assessing commercial performance.
  • Support the Senior Director, Commercial Services with commercial initiatives that integrate IP management and valuation frameworks.

Qualifications

  • Post‑secondary degree with preference for degree in Business, Commerce, Law or other related field.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of relevant intellectual property experience.
  • Strong understanding and treatment of intellectual property in a Defence context, as well as a solid understanding of patent, trademark, and copyright law.
  • Knowledge of business principles, market trends, and the commercial value of IP.
  • Strong interpersonal and team effectiveness skills with the ability to work collaboratively on a multi‑functional team.
  • Strong analytical and research abilities, including data gathering and report writing skills.
  • Delivery of clear, concise and professional communications.
  • Developed business acumen skills to understand the impact of advice and actions in order to provide customer service to client groups and to support key business decision making.
