Leverage your leadership experience within a growing real estate platform where you can manage managers, mentor a small team, share your expertise, and shape the evolution of the corporate accounting function
Your New Employer
Our client is a highly respected Canadian real estate investment, development, and asset management platform with a diversified portfolio spanning North America and Europe. With about $28 billion in assets under management, we manage a sophisticated portfolio of real estate investments and operating platforms across multiple asset classes.
Over the past several years, the business has continued to expand its investment platform while keeping a disciplined, entrepreneurial culture. The finance team supports this growth by delivering strong financial reporting, governance, and operational discipline across the organization’s complex corporate structure.
This opportunity offers the chance to join a collaborative leadership team and contribute to the continued evolution of the company’s corporate accounting and reporting infrastructure within a dynamic real estate platform.
Your New Role
Reporting to the Vice President, Finance, the Director of Finance will lead the corporate accounting function and oversee financial reporting across the organization’s complex legal entity structure.
This role ensures the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting across a complex operating platform with about 350 legal entities in the asset management structure and additional consolidated investment vehicles. Working closely with the VP Finance and senior leadership, the Director of Finance will ensure the timely preparation of consolidated financial statements, MD&A disclosures, financial statement notes, and cash flow statements prepared in accordance with IFRS.
Beyond financial reporting oversight, the Director of Finance will provide senior leadership with meaningful financial insights by reviewing monthly and quarterly financial performance reports and working closely with operating teams to ensure accurate financial information is gathered across the organization.
A significant component of the role involves leading and mentoring the corporate accounting team. The Director of Finance will oversee two managers responsible for corporate accounting and financial reporting functions while supporting the development of junior finance professionals within the team.
The role will also play an important part in strengthening internal controls and improving financial reporting processes. This includes overseeing financial reporting systems and the general ledger environment, identifying opportunities to streamline reporting workflows, and implementing improvements to analytical tools and financial processes.
Additional responsibilities include managing the quarterly and annual audit processes, supporting budgeting and long-range financial planning initiatives, and assisting senior leadership with strategic projects, including Board of Directors and Audit Committee materials, financial analysis, and corporate initiatives.
This role combines technical accounting leadership, team development, and strategic exposure in a complex, evolving real estate investment platform.
What Sets You Apart
The successful candidate will hold a CPA designation, have at least 7 years of post-qualification experience, and have a strong background in public company financial reporting.
You will bring strong technical knowledge of IFRS and experience working in complex, multi-entity environments that require sophisticated consolidation and financial reporting processes. Experience within real estate, asset management, infrastructure, or similarly structured investment platforms will be highly valued.
Equally important is demonstrated leadership experience. This role requires someone who enjoys mentoring teams, supporting managers, and helping develop finance professionals while ensuring strong reporting standards across the organization.
You are a collaborative finance leader who enjoys understanding the underlying business drivers behind financial results and partnering with senior stakeholders to translate financial information into meaningful insight.
