The Department of Physical Therapy invites applicants for the part-time role of MPT-IRV Regional Clinical Lead (0.5 FTE). The initial appointment will be for a term of one year with the possibility of reappointment. The job duties and qualifications are outlined below.
The salary will be commensurate with education and experience, within the range of approximately $60,000 - $65,000 for 0.5 FTE. Job Summary:
Accountable to the Associate Head, Clinical Education, the MPT-IRV Regional Clinical Lead (RCL) is responsible for the administration and operationalization of the clinical education activities in the Interior Health region. The incumbent will lead the recruitment and development of MPT clinical educators in alignment with UBC MPT objectives and national accreditation requirements and guidelines, as directed by the Associate Head, Clinical Education. The MPT-IRV RCL, brings clinical expertise, regional leadership and support to the Interior Health geographical region. The MPT-IRV RCL collaborates closely with the MPT-Vancouver Program Leads to ensure a comprehensive and robust educational experience for students.
The incumbent must be eligible for and maintain a Clinical Faculty appointment in good standing with the Department of Physical Therapy. This work will be remote with optional access to touchdown space at the UBC-Okanagan campus.
Organizational Status:
The Department of Physical Therapy is a research-intensive unit with award winning faculty conducting state-of-the art healthcare research. The Department also provides the only provincial program for the education of entry-to-practice Physical Therapists. The MPT Program is fully distributed and includes students in a number of different cohorts learning at various sites around the province. Through rigorous scholarly activity, high standards of instruction and creative opportunities for learning, the Department provides leadership for the profession of Physical Therapy.
This position will support the clinical education component of the newly developed MPT-IRV cohort, a cohort whose academic learning is based on the UBC Point Grey campus but complete the majority of their clinical learning in the Interior Health Region. This position reports to the Associate Head, Clinical Education and works closely with the MPT-Vancouver Site and Regional Clinical Leads.
ROLES + RESPONSIBILITIES
MPT Program Administration & Leadership
Oversees regional clinical placement administration and provides leadership to clinical educators.
Ensures clinical education delivery aligns with MPT program objectives and national accreditation standards.
Manages placement preference selection and assignment for the Interior Region Vancouver cohort, ensuring appropriate support, accommodations, and balanced clinical learning experiences.
Supports regional capacity building and contributes to the development of the clinical education vision.
Reviews placement evaluations and debrief data to ensure high‑quality, relevant clinical education opportunities.
Develops timelines, proposals, and evaluation plans for new clinical education initiatives.
Ensures compliance with administrative and financial policies and supports budget planning for regional clinical education.
Serves as liaison between the UBC MPT Program and the regional clinical community.
Clinical Educator Recruitment & Development
Recruits clinical educators in alignment with program objectives and accreditation standards.
Identifies faculty development needs and collaborates with the Associate Head, Clinical Education to ensure educators are well-supported.
Student Support
Conducts periodic student check‑ins to support well‑being and clinical education planning.
Ensures appropriate learning environments for students on placement.
Coordinates student supports and accommodations with clinical sites and internal/external services (Early Alert, Center for Accessibility, counselling, etc.).
Informs the Associate Head, Clinical Education of students experiencing difficulty or requiring additional support.
Works with Site Leads and other RCLs to manage student progression and ensure a consistent, smooth learning experience.
Supports student management and progression for learners at the Vancouver site (MPT‑V).
Committee Work & External Engagement
Supports student management and progression for learners at the Vancouver site (MPT‑V).
Minimum Qualifications
Hold an entry-to-practice degree in Physical Therapy
Be licensed to practice in BC with the College of Health and Care Professionals.
A minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Clinical Educator for Health Professional Students
Demonstrated evidence of ability and commitment to teaching.
Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and interact with empathy, understanding and respect of diverse perspectives.
Preferred Qualifications
A post-graduate degree in a related discipline (e.g. education, leadership, or research) is an asset.
Previous classroom teaching experience with Physical Therapy or other health professional students.
Experience developing or contributing to innovative learning initiatives.
Experience providing leadership, coordination, or oversight in a clinical or academic setting.
Experience in collaborating and bringing forward projects with diverse groups, including colleagues, students, and/or stakeholders, is valued.
Experience supervising or mentoring clinical educators, preceptors, or learners.
Experience leading or contributing to quality improvement, curriculum development, or program evaluation.
Demonstrated ability to build strong partnerships with clinical sites, health authorities, and community-based practices.
