Forklift Operator (Kelowna)

Job Title: Forklift OperatorJob Description

This role involves the off-loading and on-loading of goods from containers using a propane sit-down counterbalance (SDCB) forklift. The operator will spend approximately 80% of their shift on the forklift, working quickly yet safely in tight quarters. The products handled are freight of varying sizes and weights, requiring experience in this area. The use of paper shipping documents is essential, with plans to transition to complex digital shipping software soon. The facility is open, but the high volume necessitates maneuvering through tight corners. This position requires the ability to handle shipments of all sizes.

Responsibilities

• Operate a propane SDCB forklift to off-load and on-load goods.
• Work in a busy environment, managing freight of various shapes and weights.
• Use paper shipping documents to ensure accurate loading and unloading.
• Adapt to using a complex digital shipping software in the near future.
• Navigate tight corners within the facility safely and efficiently.
• Handle shipments of varying sizes, from small to large.

Essential Skills

• Minimum of 1 year experience operating a SDCB forklift in a less-than-truckload (LTL) environment.
• Valid forklift ticket.
• Good computer skills.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds repetitively.
• Reliable transportation.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• 2-5 years experience in LTL.
• Leadership experience.
• Experience with Truckmate software.
• Ability to work independently and take initiative.
• Comfortable with shop talk and good English communication.

Work Environment

The work environment is fast-paced, operating 24 hours depending on the arrival and departure of trucks. It is a busy setting with numerous trucks and drivers. Forklifts operate at a fast pace but with an emphasis on safety. The dock has over 50 doors and handles a wide variety of products, including fridges and tires. The culture is fast-paced and multicultural, with a team that values independence and initiative. There are approximately 50 operators working per shift. The dress code requires steel-toed boots, which the employee must provide themselves. The shift offers between 20 to 35 hours per week, with shifts from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, including an 8-hour day shift on Sundays.
