Job description

Your Opportunity:

If you enjoy cleaning and have an eye for detail, we want you on our team! Join us and help keep our hospitals clean, safe, and welcoming. Claresholm Center for Mental Health and Addictions is hiring Casual Environmental Services (housekeeper/cleaner). If you see something that needs attention, even garbage on the floor, you step in safely and professionally to take care of it because every action helps support patient care. We'll train you to safely clean and disinfect our healthcare buildingsEnvironmental Services staff follow cleaning and disinfecting protocols while cleaning surfaces and patient equipment in assigned areas such as patient rooms, treatment rooms, emergency and operating rooms, washrooms, offices, and corridors. Duties include cleanup of blood and body fluids, washing walls, using ladders/step stools to change privacy curtains, routine floor care with mops, scrubbers, and buffers, and removing waste such as garbage, biomedical, and recycling to designated holding areas. Staff must wear personal protective equipment, including masks, gloves, gowns, and eye protection for long periods while working safely and following protocols. Work is completed with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment that can sometimes be stressful. Environmental Services staff must remain kind, approachable, and professional when interacting with patients, families, and healthcare staff, providing excellent customer service. Shift schedules may include of days, evenings and weekends shifts. Claresholm (population 3,800) is a welcoming town 125 km south of Calgary, offering affordable living, schools, sports facilities, and nearby natural attractions. Healthcare is supported by Claresholm General Hospital and a range of community services, including mental health and continuing care.

Description:

As an Environmental Services staff, you will be responsible for a variety of tasks associated with cleaning and disinfecting clinical and non-clinical healthcare environments within a hospital or facility. Your typical duties may include sweeping, mopping and vacuuming; restocking supplies in bathroom facilities; stripping linen and making beds; operating industrial cleaning equipment for floor maintenance and restoration; thorough washing of ceilings and windows; emptying hazardous waste; and replenishing cleaning supplies and linens. You will also be responsible for identifying and reporting potential hazards to your Working Leader and you may also provide training or orientation to Environmental or Laundry staff.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of Grade 10 or equivalent. Knowledge and operation of computers and smartphones. Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time and perform repetitive movements for the duration of your shift. Physically capable to lift up to 25 lbs and push and pull up to 50 lbs of force.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Must read, write, speak, and follow written and verbal instructions in English to work safely. Ability to climb ladders/step stools, squat, bend, and reach in all directions (including overhead). Must have sufficient hand strength to perform repetitive wiping, wringing, and gripping motions. Must wear personal protective equipment such as masks (facial hair may interfere with achieving a proper seal), eye protection, gloves, and gowns for long periods of time. Dependable, cooperative, with a customer service attitude and able to work with minimal supervision. Basic computer and smartphone knowledge required. Applications with a completed job profile and/or resume will be considered. All new employees will be required to attend a 6-day Environmental Services Orientation.

Preferred Qualifications:

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Knowledge of hospital housekeeping policy and procedures. Knowledge of cleaning and disinfecting in health care environment. Customer service experience. Leadership experience such as working leader, shift lead, trainer or equivalent.
