The Opportunity
The Director, Postgraduate Medical Education will be responsible for the leadership, management and overall administration of the Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME) portfolio in the School of Medicine. Reporting to the Senior Director, Clinical Education, the Director provides leadership with respect to program excellence; innovation, creation, delivery, quality and ongoing improvement; outcome metrics; managerial and financial functions; and staffing and learning management system within the framework created by the School of Medicine senior leadership team.
In this role, the Director provides operational and governance leadership across the School of Medicine’s accredited postgraduate programs, currently including sixteen residency programs across Family Medicine and Royal College specialties. The Director ensures effective coordination of program operations, governance structures, and administrative support to sustain high-quality training environments.
The Director will ensure program effectiveness, growth and sustainability aligned with the School’s strategic goals and objectives, the strategic plan and/or special education processes of Toronto Metropolitan University.
Working with the Associate Dean, PGME, the Director will also support the accreditation and implementation of new residency programs as part of the School of Medicine’s strategic expansion of postgraduate training capacity.
This role collaborates closely with shared academic and operational units within the School of Medicine to support both local program needs and broader PGME priorities. Key units include Recruitment and Admissions, Learner Affairs, Clinical Anatomy and Simulation, and Medical Education & Health Technologies.
The Director also supports central PGME planning, operational processes, governance, and represents interests and operational needs of PGME and the School of Medicine in provincial and national settings.

Qualifications:

- Minimum of a Master’s degree in higher education or related field is required
- A minimum of seven years (7) of successful leadership experience conceptualizing, planning, implementing and directing innovative academic programming in a post-secondary education, to include assuming leadership roles in significant projects or programs
- Equivalent experience or a combination of equivalent experience and education may be accepted in place of education
- Minimum of 3 years in medical or health professional education;
- Experience working with and building relationships with multi-sectoral stakeholders
- Management and supervisory skills; ability to provide incentive and motivation;
- Superior conceptual, problem solving and oral and written communication skills;
- Excellent knowledge of the principles and theory of adult education at local, national and international levels
- Knowledge of best practices related to strategic program planning and implementation
