Job Title: Temporary Staff Representative (2 vacancies) – Member Engagement (SR2)

Duration: 3-months

Job Summary:

Reporting to the Director and Associate Director of Communications, the temporary Staff Representative is responsible for coordinating and delivering member engagement initiatives by supporting committees, campaigns, events, communications, and community outreach.

Key Responsibilities:

Committee support: support elected leaders, staff leads, and member activists in the planning and delivery of BCGEU committees, roundtables, conferences, and related member engagement initiatives; assist with agenda development, logistics, participant communications, materials, follow-up, and evaluation.

Roundtable and conference planning and execution: coordinate communications and engagement support for member-facing conferences, meetings, roundtables associated with BCGEU committees including developing workback schedules, coordinating with internal departments, supporting registration and participant communications, preparing briefing materials, and ensuring event objectives are clearly understood and delivered.

Campaign development and execution: support the development and implementation of advocacy and contract campaign plans that meaningfully engage members; help identify member engagement opportunities, support outreach tactics, coordinate campaign materials, and contribute to campaign evaluation and reporting.

Community outreach and coalition work: liaise with BCGEU activists, community groups, coalition partners and other stakeholders on outreach events like Pride or Remembrance Day; help ensure BCGEU participation in community initiatives is strategic, well-organized, and aligned with union priorities.

Member communications and materials: work with communications staff to develop clear, accessible materials for member engagement initiatives, including emails, briefing notes, agendas, event materials, web content, campaign resources, presentations, and follow-up communications.

Project coordination: coordinate complex projects involving multiple stakeholders, deadlines, and dependencies; ensure timelines, roles, approvals, and deliverables are clearly identified and tracked.

Other duties: the primary role in this position is member engagement; however, the Staff Representative may be assigned associated work, as required, to support departmental objectives.

Education & Relevant Experience:

demonstrated skills and experience developing and supporting member engagement, campaign, outreach, or event strategies within the labour movement, community organizations, non-profits, or similar settings experience supporting committees, conferences, roundtables, member meetings, community events, or other participatory engagement processes knowledge of equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility principles as they relate to member engagement, events, and communicationsdemonstrated ability to manage complex projects with multiple stakeholders, ensuring tasks stay on track and deadlines are met excellent plain language and accessible communication skills, including the ability to draft clear member communications, briefing materials, agendas, reports, and campaign or event resources strong facilitation, coordination, and relationship-building skills, including the ability to work effectively with elected leaders, members, staff, community partners, and coalition partners demonstrated ability to support activists, volunteers, or member leaders and to maintain effective working relationships with union and community activists an understanding of the goals and values of the labour movement strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment experience with advocacy campaigns, contract campaigns, community outreach, or member mobilization is an asset familiarity with communications tools, member databases, registration systems, email platforms, survey tools, or project management software is an asset

SALARY RANGE:

Bi-Weekly: $2,798.40 - $5,430.91 Annually: $73,009.08 - $141,688.64

Travel is required; therefore, applicants must hold a valid B.C. Drivers Licence.
