Job Summary

Under the direction of the Operations Supervisors, the successful candidate will ensure the safe and efficient delivery of On-Road service and provide support to the Transit Operators.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Ensuring service is delivered according to the service plan and the service schedule in a high quality safe customer environment.
• Supervising and providing assistance and guidance to the operators, and other operations supporting staff for effective and efficient service to customers and collaborating with other departments and stakeholders including Maintenance and Customer Service team to resolve service related issues.
• Ensuring schedule adherence by monitoring Transit Operators and traffic conditions for safe driving habits to optimize on-time performance.
• Providing leadership to Transit Operators by continuous motivating, coaching, counselling and supporting.
• Participate in the progressive discipline process of operators as required, and work closely with the ATU representatives to resolve labour relations issues; including participation in grievance proceeding up to and including the arbitration level.
• Ensuring compliance with all transportation regulations and company policies, including but not limited to the Highway Traffic Act, OHSA Acts and Regulations, Employment Standards Act, and MiWay SOPs.
• Resolving emergency situations including accidents, incidents and service disruptions by conducting thorough investigations and representing MiWay in a positive and professional manner when dealing with internal/external stakeholders including Fire, Police, emergency services or Transit Enforcement.
• Preparing accurate and detailed reports on operators’ performance, accidents/incidents and service adjustments.
• Investigating public complaints working with Transit Operations Employees’ team and Customer Service team.
• Fostering positive labour relations through a collaborative resolution process.
• Working in Transit Control using iBus, Hastus and other communications tools including radio channels with Operators, On-Route Supervisors, Transit Enforcement, Security, Report and Allocation and Operations’ management to monitor andmanage on-road operations by minimizing service interruptions or cancellations.
• Manage operations on-road including transit way and all terminals by roaming and/or stationed as assigned.
• Conducting garage/facility duties such as assisting and supervising Report and Allocation office as assigned to ensure all operators and buses are ready for the service.
• Partnering with the Health & Safety Committee for the elimination or control of occupational hazards in the workplace and being a champion promoting safe work environment.
• Showing initiative and being a leader by constantly searching for ways to improve performance of the service and operational efficiency.
• Participating in special projects as Operations lead and supporting other MiWay initiatives and working groups/committees.
• Performing other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications

• Completion of secondary school is required, a college diploma or university degree in business or transportation is preferred.
• 2 or more years of experience in a transit operations organization is required; previous supervisory experience is preferred.
• Participation in the Acting Route Supervisor Program, Peer Training Program or Peer Support Program is preferred.
• Tact and diplomacy bringing excellent communication skills to deal with internal and external stakeholders including the public, community groups, operators, management and elected union representatives.
• Must be able to effectively deal with resolving conflicts in a constructive way.
• Demonstrated ability to work and make sound decisions under pressure using critical thinking that requires detailed insight and constructive criticism into problems and complex situations.
• Strong interpersonal, and customer service skills are essential.
• Demonstrated leadership skills to lead people with the ability to motivate and inspire a diverse group of employees.
• Proficient computer skills including the ability to input data, extract and analyze information; and strong working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and knowledge of transit related applications including Hastus andIBus or equivalent is preferred.
• A strong working knowledge of the ATU Collective agreement, Company and Corporate Policies & Procedures, ESA,OHRC, AODA, WSIB, OHSA, HTA and MTO licensing requirements.
• A current CZ license and driver’s abstract indicating safe and responsible vehicle operation over the past 3 years.
• The incumbent must be available to work a variety of shifts including split shifts, 24 hour rotating shifts, weekend work and Stat Holidays.

Hourly Rate/Salary: $91,701.00 - $122,268.00
