Indigenous Research Coordinator, Community Health & Epidemiology

Summary:

IRPC will be responsible for the overall coordination of research program, including planning, finance and administration, basic communications support, and organizing reports for funders and community partners. They will also be responsible for events planning and coordination of all community events.

The Indigenous Coordinator collaborates closely with stakeholders to develop and implement programs, build relationships, and enhance Indigenous engagement within the Department. This position is crucial in fostering a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive environment that promotes the personal, social, cultural, and academic success of learners. Some travel within the province may be required.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for Indigenous students, offering guidance, mentorship, and support to enhance their university experience
  • Develop and facilitate programs and initiatives that promote Indigenous student success and well-being
  • Foster relationships with Indigenous communities, organizations, and leaders to strengthen partnerships and collaboration
  • Support the provision of cultural training and workshops for faculty, staff, and students.
  • Ensure effective communication and coordination between Indigenous students, faculty, and university support services
  • Assist in the development and implementation of policies and programs that reflect Indigenous perspectives and knowledge systems
  • Advocate for Indigenous students' needs and interests within the College of Medicine
  • Organize and participate in events and activities that celebrate Indigenous cultures and traditions
  • Monitor and assess the effectiveness of Indigenous support programs, recommending improvements as needed

Qualifications and Skills:

Education: Bachelor’s degree or certificate related to administration or a related field (or equivalent experience).

Experience: At least 3-5 years of related experience. Experience working in an research environment would be considered an asset. Experience working and collaborating in diverse and inclusive settings is required.

  • Demonstrated experience working with Indigenous communities and students in an academic setting
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain community relationships in Saskatchewan
  • Strong understanding of Indigenous cultures, traditions, and ways of knowing
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, including students, faculty, staff, and community partners
  • Strong organizational and program development skills
  • Commitment to advancing Indigenous student success and well-being within the Department of Community Health & Epidemiology
