Mount Allison University Libraries and Archives invites applications from qualified candidates for a three-quarter-time STEM & Scholarly Communications Librarian. This is a three-year term position with a desired start date of July 1, 2026.

Duties
Reporting to the Dean of Libraries and Archives, the STEM & Scholarly Communications Librarian will provide research, teaching, and learning support in the Sciences including Biology, Chemistry and Biochemistry, Physics, and Psychology. This also includes working with the Business and Social Sciences Librarian to support science-related teaching and research aspects of Interdisciplinary Health Studies, Environmental Science, and Aviation. In addition, the STEM & Scholarly Communications Librarian works closely with the Data and Digital Services Librarian to coordinate and promote scholarly communications services that support the visibility and impact of Mount Allison’s researchers.

As a member of the public services team, the incumbent will: 1) provide in-person and online reference and research assistance by appointment and as needed; 2) serve in a liaison role to the faculty of Science, providing support via teaching, research help, and collection development; 3) assist with management and organization of digital content; and 4) participate in collection care activities, including the planning and preparation for the R.P. Bell Library Revitalization Project.

As a member of Library Council, the STEM & Scholarly Communications Librarian will contribute to the professional discourse and planning related to the Libraries’ strategic and logistical goals. The successful candidate may be asked to participate on Library or university working groups or committees, and may be assigned responsibilities in other areas befitting the Libraries’ priorities, dependent on the successful candidate’s strengths and expertise.

Required qualifications:

• An MLIS or equivalent degree from an ALA-accredited library school; and
• An undergraduate degree in sciences
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Strong public service-centred philosophy
• Ability to work well in a collegial environment
• Experience working with Scholarly Communications and Open Access

Preferred qualifications:

• A graduate degree in the sciences, particularly in Biology, Chemistry & Biochemistry, or Physics
• Experience working in an academic library context

This position is represented by the Mount Allison Faculty Association and includes opportunities for participation and involvement in scholarship, teaching, and service. This position requires primarily in-person service, with some remote work possible. The appointment will be made at the rank of Assistant Librarian. Salary will be within the established range and commensurate with qualifications and experience. In 2026-2027, the full-time annual base salary for Assistant Librarian is $88,442.
