This is a senior management position, accountable to the Director of Operations and Industry Investment, and is responsible to “activate” the growth and development of tourism related events, activities and products including but not limited to sport, culture (including music, dance, etc), culinary and indigenous tourism. The goal of the position is to leverage all provincial assets to develop, attract and fund significant events, activities and create new product offerings focused on driving tourism demand on PEI.
Duties include:
- Develops, implements and oversees Provincial funds and the protocols related to event and activity funding program(s), aligned with a Provincial Tourism Development Strategy;
- Supports industry operators and event organizers in their marketing and communication strategies to raise the profile of the event to maximize attraction;
- Implements and oversees investment programs to assist product development initiatives and assists stakeholders to navigate the appropriate program;
- Responsible for the financial, operational, managerial, and due diligence of prospect stakeholder funding proposals, conducts economic impact reviews and analyzes return on investment;
- Guides, recommends and facilitates contracts, funding levels and partner benefits provided by stakeholders to the province, and monitors terms and conditions of contracts;
- Attends sector networking activities and events to establish relationships with key stakeholders, and engages with various municipal & federal departments and business & industry associations to ensure that programs and strategies are aligned, seamless, innovative and responsive while fostering growth and sustainability;
- Assesses research, business intelligence and best practices to determine demand and key market opportunities;
- Provides advice and analysis to industry stakeholders and internally to the Director and the Department’s senior management team;
- Develops an annual work plan to ensure priorities are carried out consistent with a provincial product development strategy;
- Ensures the effective management of human and financial resources of the Product Development team by setting and evaluating staff performance targets;
- Collaborates with appropriate Provincial body in the marketing and communication strategies to raise the province’s profile as an international leader in hosting events and activities ensuring that key markets are aware of PEI’s hosting potential and ability;
- Assists in the negotiations for securing events on behalf of the Province, including preparation of bid packages and securing investment from key strategic partners including both private and public sectors;
- Administers, develops and negotiates agreements and contracts in adherence to Treasury Board guidelines; and
- Other duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
- University degree in Business Administration, Tourism, Finance or related field;
- Extensive experience in creating and fostering collaborative relationships with multiple stakeholders;
- Extensive experience in the leadership of employees;
- Extensive experience with budgeting and financial planning;
- Considerable experience in project management;
- Experience in innovative Tourism or business product development;
- Experience with presentation techniques and methods to internal and external stakeholders;
- Demonstrated equivalencies will be considered;
- Ability to work independently;
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal and written & oral communication skills;
Other Qualifications:
- Master’s degree considered an asset;
- Experience in strategic planning and evaluation considered an asset;
- Knowledge of the local, regional and national tourism industry considered an asset;
