Under general direction from Supervisor Plant Operations, Charge Hand or Maintenance Workers trades, assists in performing inter-occupational general maintenance as assigned to; heating, ventilation, air conditioning, plumbing, carpentry, welding, components, and infrastructure throughout all buildings and site services. The maintenance and repair will encompass duties such as assisting; maintaining, repairing and replacing components such as valves, seals, bearings, air filtration, controls and all other associated components to pumps, fans, air compressors, heating systems, sewage systems, kitchen/cafeteria equipment, fire, temperature and air flow devices. This position is intended to be able to work independently (depending on qualifications and experience) and also provide support to other team resources as required and may be required to complete other maintenance items as assigned by Charge hand or Maintenance Workers trades to meet operational needs.
The incumbent is responsible for quality work in a timely manner and ensuring that all duties are carried out in a safe and efficient manner and in accordance with all statutory codes and regulations and any operational systems established by the department from time to time. This position will work within all code and safety requirements which at times will require they work closely under the direction of qualified team resources. They may be required to meet the operational needs of the university team, including working in extreme weather conditions or assisting other teams.

Qualifications
Education, Training and Experience
⦁ Grade 12, plus three (3) years recent, related experience performing duties in an institutional environment able to perform at or approaching trades level work or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
⦁ 5th class power engineering certification or any trades apprentice qualification or combination of experience and education.
⦁ Maintenance and/or construction experience
⦁ Possession of a valid Class 5 driver’s license in the province of BC.
⦁ Knowledge of WHMIS and H&S Policy and procedures.
⦁ Basic Safety, Equipment Maintenance, Presenting Technical Information.
Skills and Abilities
⦁ Ability to communicate effectively verbally, in writing and by email.
⦁ Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
⦁ Ability to operate equipment related to duties and work performed.
⦁ Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
⦁ General knowledge of procedures involved in work performed.

⦁ Construction related experience, carpentry, painting, flooring, drywall, patching etc.

Additional Information This position is regular full-time working 37.5 hours per week. The successful candidate must have the ability to work a variety of shifts including weekends. This is a CUPE Local 3886 Bargaining Unit position and the hourly rate is $31.44 and the university is pleased to offer a comprehensive benefits package.
