Our client, a manufacturer in the energy sector, is looking hire a Software Architect for their location in Markham, ON.
Responsibilities:
- Systems Architect for Grid Automation Technology team to enable digital transformation in the power grid, focused on signal digitization, protection & control infrastructure devices.
- Elicit and Capture detailed requirements from stakeholders
- Analyze complex requirements to design overall system architecture including hardware/software interface and embedded software
- Document software architecture design in various formats including block diagrams, UML
- Handle change management and impact analysis, assessing the effects of modifications on system architecture.
- Ensure requirements traceability through all phases of design, implementation, and testing.
- Maintain a strong alignment to the power utility protection standards (for example IEC 61850) in system design.
- Provide strategies for platforms and technology development, technical risks elimination and insertion, in order to make the platform reliable and the product competitive.
- Collaborate with Product Owners and Product Managers on backlog definition and prioritization.
- Steer cross-functional councils to solve issues, drive decisions, gain consensus, and align on technical risk mitigation strategies.
- Communicate complex messages and negotiate internally with others to adopt a different point of view. Influence peers to take action and negotiate with external partners and vendors.
Required Qualifications:
- Experience architecting micro-service based real time and NRT applications
- Bachelor's Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) from an accredited college or university.
- Experience designing embedded software architecture (RT and NRT applications)
- Proficiency in C/C++
- Experience with Embedded Linux
- Experience with micro services, containerization (specifically) software architecture
- Stakeholder management capabilities. (. build trust and relationships fast, identify local network and connecting the dots)
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience with DSP
- Knowledge with networking protocols (example: IEC 61850, IEEE 1588, IEC 62439-3, RSTP, VLANs, DNP3)
- Any knowledge, experience or exposure to Transmission & Distribution power software systems (manufacturing protection relays, power electronics, inverter/converter, industrial controls)
- Experience with system and integration testing methods.
- Experience with Yocto
- Experience Object-oriented analysis and design
