Project
The Woodfibre LNG Project is located approximately 7 km west-southwest of Squamish, British Columbia. It involves the construction and operation of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facility on the previous Woodfibre pulp mill site, which would have a storage capacity of 250,000 m3 and would produce approximately 2.1 million tons per year of LNG.

Position
The Project Engineer is an integral part of Woodfibre LNG's dynamic team. Reporting to the Head of Engineering Support, this position is responsible for establishing and executing the sustaining capital project delivery approach for the operating facility, ensuring facility modifications are safely planned, engineered, constructed, and handed back to Operations. Projects at Woodfibre LNG are complex, multi-disciplinary modifications to an operating facility, and require close integration with Operations, Maintenance, HSSE, and Turnaround planning. This role is expected to provide experienced leadership to ensure these projects are executed with strong operational awareness, technical integrity, and minimal impact to ongoing operations.
Key Responsibilities:
The successful applicant will:
- Develop and implement a fit-for-purpose sustaining capital project delivery framework, including project stages, decision points, roles & responsibilities, and required documentation.
- Define clear expectations for how projects are initiated, scoped, approved, executed, and handed back to Operations.
- Conduct/manage field surveys to verify existing infrastructure and ensure new designs integrate properly with legacy systems.
- Lead projects from concept development through detailed engineering, construction, commissioning, and close-out.
- Manage project scope, schedule, quality, cost, and risk in line with approved authorizations.
- Coordinate engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning activities in an operating facility environment.
- Manage and oversee external engineering contractors, vendors, and construction resources.
- Work closely with Operations, Maintenance, HSSE, Turnaround and Regulatory teams to plan and execute work safely and efficiently, and SIMOPS as required.
- Ensure operational readiness, maintainability, and operability are embedded into project design and execution.
- Support effective handover of completed projects, including documentation, training, and operational acceptance.
- Support the integration of the Management of Change process with Projects Engineering process
- Provide clear, concise updates to leadership on brownfield project status, risks, and required decisions.
- Capture lessons learned from brownfield project execution and embed improvements into project delivery practices.
- Contribute to the ongoing development of engineering support and operational integration processes.
Requirements
Required Experience:
- 10+ years of experience in hydrocarbon facilities (LNG, oil & gas, petrochemical, refining, or similar heavy industrial environments).
- Proven experience executing sustaining capital/ brownfield projects at operating facilities.
- Strong understanding of the interfaces between projects, operations, maintenance, and turnarounds.
- Experience working within formal change management and technical approval processes.
- Demonstrated ability to lead complex, cross-functional scopes in live operating environments.
- Strong contractor management and execution experience
- Demonstrated ability to develop or improve project management processes.
Additional Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering with P Eng designation or eligibility with EGBC.
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple concurrent projects.
- Sound judgment in risk-based, operational decision-making environments.
- Experience with project and document management tools (e.g., SharePoint, MS Office Suite).
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
- The position is based in Squamish, BC (Project Site), with an initial stay period at the Vancouver Office in and a visit to the Site Project as required.
