Under general direction, the person in this position performs room readiness, post-function details, basic custodial tasks and minor furnishing and equipment repair; receives and delivers university purchases and relocates university assets; applies and maintains the computerized coding and recording processes of the University Asset Inventory System.
The incumbent is responsible for the physical event coordination, “set up/tear down” and appearance of the University facilities for use by the internal and external clients; the physical relocation of University assets, and the maintenance of a professional ‘front door’ image presented by the University.
The incumbent must be capable of periods of high intensity and physical work and have the ability to work flexible hours and weekends, as this position will be working mostly weekends and shifts to meet the needs of our clients. The incumbent is required to lift, carry and place heavy loads as a routine requirement of the position, being ever mindful of the historical facility and potential damage to the structure. At times, may be required to meet the university's operational needs, including working in extreme weather conditions or assisting other teams.
Job Requirements
Required:
- Grade 12 graduation from a secondary school or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Possession of a valid Cass 5 driver’s license in the province of British Columbia.
- Ability to push, pull, maneuver, and lift heavy objects.
- Physically able to perform repetitive tasks: physically demanding, bending, crouching, kneeling, weight handling.
- Experience disassembling and reassembling furniture and equipment.
- Demonstrated ability to operate equipment and machinery related to the duties and work performed (hand truck, pallet jack, fridge dolly, pressure washer).
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
To be successful in this position, the incumbent must demonstrate the following knowledge, skills and abilities:
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Ability to communicate using computerized electronic format.
- Ability to operate equipment related to duties and work performed.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- General knowledge of procedures involved in work performed.
- Ability to work in inclement weather.
Preferred:
- Knowledge of Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) and the use of Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
- Knowledge of Health and Safety Policy and procedures
- Knowledge of basic computer applications
- One (1) year experience performing related duties in an institutional environment or equivalent combination of education, training and experience
Additional Information This is a casual on-call position within the CUPE Local 3886 Bargaining Unit. The hourly rate is $24.69, and the university is pleased to offer a percentage of salary in lieu of benefits. The role supports a 7-day-a-week operation. As a casual position, no minimum hours are guaranteed, and shifts are scheduled on an as-needed basis, based on seniority as per the CA.
