Job description

The Opportunity

Are you looking for a caring, collaborative, values-driven workplace with inspiring teammates and leaders? Do you have the ambition to thrive at one of the world’s leading global insurance providers? Look no further than Zurich Canada.

Zurich Canada is building our enterprise learning function for the future. This new role, Assistant Vice President, Enterprise Learning & Development, will establish the strategy, operating model, and standards for how learning is delivered across the organization, aligned to Zurich’s global frameworks and designed for Canada’s local needs.

If you are a strategic learning leader with strong business acumen and a builder’s mindset, able to translate enterprise priorities into scalable, measurable capability solutions and modernize learning through data and responsible AI-enabled practices—we would love to hear from you.

In this role, you will lead our enterprise learning agenda and service delivery model, setting clear operating principles and performance standards. You will partner closely with business leaders, HR Business Partners, and HR Centers of Expertise on high-profile change and capability initiatives, ensuring alignment to global models while delivering locally relevant outcomes.

This is a people leader role. Reporting to the Vice President, Talent & Culture, you will provide strategic leadership and operational oversight across enterprise learning strategy, governance, solution design, delivery quality, vendor partnerships, learning technology enablement, and measurement, helping Zurich Canada build critical capabilities and accelerate performance.

This is a unique opportunity to shape enterprise learning in a supportive environment where your voice matters. This posting is for an existing vacancy.

Zurich Canada uses artificial intelligence–enabled tools to support certain aspects of the recruitment process, including the initial review and screening of applications. Artificial intelligence is not the sole basis for candidate shortlisting or selection. All hiring decisions are reviewed and made by qualified hiring professionals.

Zurich follows a hybrid work model requiring three days per week of in-person presence.

What you will do:

What you bring to the table:

Required:

• Bachelor’s degree and 10 or more years of experience in Learning & Development analysis, design, development, implementation, and delivery in multiple environments
• 5 or more years of people leadership experience building, leading, and coaching high-performing teams
• Experience in performance consulting / human performance improvement (beyond “order taking” training delivery)
• Demonstrated success partnering with senior stakeholders and influencing outcomes across a matrixed organization
• Demonstrated ability to leverage data and insights to drive decision-making and demonstrate learning impact (beyond satisfaction metrics)
• Strong analytical thinking, problem solving, and decision-making skills
• Strong communication and influencing skills, with the ability to simplify complexity and drive alignment

Preferred:

• Experience managing learning budgets, forecasting, and vendor ecosystems (including vendor selection and performance management)
• Experience leading large-scale projects or change initiatives with multiple stakeholders and long-term timelines
• Knowledge of learning technology trends and modern learning practices (blended, digital, learning in the flow of work)
• Established external network of learning consultants and solution providers
• Experience integrating AI-enabled capabilities within learning platforms (LMS/LXP) and content ecosystems, including taxonomy/metadata, analytics, and adoption enablement
• Bilingual (English/French) is an asset.

At Zurich Canada, we are committed to pay equity. We determine compensation based on objective criteria such as skills, experience, and internal equity. The salary range for this position is $120,000K – $150,000. This range reflects the expected pay for the role across Canada and may vary depending on factors like office location, specific responsibilities, and individual qualifications. As required by local law, Zurich provides in good faith a reasonable compensation range, but starting salaries may exceed this range based on a candidate’s skills and experience.

• At Zurich, we are proud of our culture. We are passionate about Diversity, Inclusion, Equity and Belonging (DIEB). We want you to bring your whole self to work, and we want our employees to be reflective of the communities in which we live and work. • We have a collaborative culture where diversity of thought is valued. We value your input and strive to give our employees the tools they need to make an impact.
• We care about our employees’ well-being and offer a comprehensive health and benefits plan with varying levels of coverage to suit your specific needs, along with a competitive total compensation package.
• We understand how important it is to rest, recharge, and do the things you love. All Zurich employees receive a minimum of four weeks of vacation per year, as well as four personal days to use at their discretion.
• We are committed to continuous improvement and offer access to a wide range of learning and development opportunities.
• We care about our communities and are proud to give back through our talent, time, and resources.
• We are proud to be recognized as one of Greater Toronto’s Top Employers and a recipient of Insurance Business Canada’s 5-Star Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Award.
