LOCATION AND ABOUT NHH
ROLE OVERVIEW
Responsible to the Director of Diagnostic Imaging & Laboratory Services, Laboratory Manager and the Laboratory Medical Director, the Laboratory Assistant performs routine laboratory procedures limited to those as regulated by the Ministry of Health.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
- A graduate of a Medical Laboratory Assistant training program
- MLPAO or CSMLS certification
- Good communication skills, demonstrated tact and diplomacy, ability to cooperate with others and take directions, ability to prioritize and work well under pressure
- Phlebotomy & ECG experience
- Computer skills are an asset and preferred
- Must be available to work all shifts including weekends/relief work and vacation
- A preferred weekend assignment may be accommodated
PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORKING CONDITIONS
- Able to work in an active environment with multiple demands
- Must have sufficient physical endurance to deal with the job requirements
- Ability to stand for prolonged periods
- Must have the required manual and mental accuracy for safe and effective handling of samples and equipment
EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS
Successful applicants are required provide a satisfactory vulnerable sector criminal reference check, that was complete less than one year from the date of hire. This requirement must be met within the first sixty (60) days of employment.
Additionally, to the above, successful applicants are also required to complete the Health Care Worker Health review process which includes providing an up-to-date immunization record to ensure compliance with the Ontario Hospital Association Communicable Diseases Surveillance Protocols within the first thirty (30) days of employment. Northumberland Hills Hospital operates a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy for all staff.
