Residence Programming Assistant

The Residence Programming Assistant (RPA) is responsible for supporting the Residence Life Staff (RLS) in carrying out various activities and events throughout the residence community. In particular, the incumbent will be responsible for supporting the development of Welcome Week Programming. In their role through the academic year, they will provide additional programming for Frost Week, the RLS, and students in residence. They may also work with the Residence Life Management Team (RLMT) to provide professional development opportunities for RLS.

Role:

  • To create a community atmosphere in residence.
  • To assist in supporting the Residence Life Staff (RLS) in carrying out various activities and events throughout the Residence community.
  • To support the development of orientation programming, particularly Welcome Week programming and Frost Week programming.
  • To maintain open communication and manage administrative duties.
  • To act as a role model of respect for self, others, and the community.
  • To actively participate in fostering a culture of inclusivity, accessibility, reconciliation, and decolonization.

The RPA must:

  • Be legally eligible for employment;

  • Be currently enrolled as a Brock student returning to Brock as a student in the Fall;

  • Have sound knowledge of Residence Community Standards, event Risk Management procedures and campus resources;

  • Have experience with living in a post-secondary residence and/or previous leadership experience (such as RLS and/or RAC members) will be given preference.

Term of Appointment & Renumeration:

  • This position is paid at a rate of$ The incumbent will work up to 35 hours per week from May through to Welcome Week in September. Availability to execute events during Welcome Week 2026is critical to this role;
  • The position continues throughout the academic year (September-April) on a part-time basis (10-20 hours per week) based on Departmental need.
  • This position cannot be filled by a member of the 2026-2027Residence Life Staff due to the number of hours required by both positions during the months of August and September.

Under the direction of the Residence Life Management Team (RLMT) in collaboration with the BIPOC Residence Programming Assistant, the Residence Programming Assistant will:

  • Develop, promote, and executeResidence programming for Welcome Week, Frost Week, and ongoing programming throughout the year for students and student-staff;

  • Work in collaboration with campus partners ( Student Life & Success, Brock University Students’ Union, Human Rights & Equity, Student Wellness & Accessibility Centre) to create relevant and engaging programming for Residence students;

  • Sit as a contributing member of the campus-wide Orientation Planning Committee;

  • Work with Ancillary Services Marketing to promote Residence Welcome Week events;

  • Create/write facilitation guides for Welcome Week events;

  • Build relationships with community and campus partners to obtain prize donations, thank donors, and promote residence student engagement with the broader Niagara community;

  • Book event space and other resources required for events;

  • Work within the allocated budget to create relevant and engaging programming, including ordering necessary supplies;

  • Post events on ExperienceBU and complete the event risk management process;

  • Track attendance and upload attendance to Experience BU

  • Evaluate and organize RLS support at/facilitation of Welcome Week events;

  • Develop and facilitate professional development opportunities in collaboration with the RLMT.

Administrative/other duties;

  • Attend SmartStart resource fairs as scheduled to help promote Residence and answer questions to incoming students

  • Write a transition report post-Welcome Week, Frost Week; and end of contract for their work throughout the year;

  • Track finances and spending and complete expense reports related to purchasing;

  • Complete tasks to support the development of policies, processes, and the department;

  • Update bulletin boards as needed;

  • Assistwith organizing move-in volunteers;

  • Send monthly newsletters to Housing with information for each functional area within Housing Services;

  • Assistwith move-in day as needed;

  • Assist with preparations for and set up at Brock’s Fall Preview Day and Spring Open House.

Manage and organize Residence Life Staff resources and spaces;

  • Inventory rounds bags and contents, first aid kits, b-board kits, mascots, mascot books, and programming kits;

  • Inventory and organize the resources in RLS spaces ( the Decew Resource Centre, Lowenberger Resource Centre, and storage rooms);

  • Assess the need and make recommendations for new supplies and resources;

  • Prepare and present information about Welcome Week events and RLS involvement to both the Head Residents and Residence Dons;

  • Provide feedback and insight on the student experience to the RLMT as they develop training sessions for the RLS;

  • Assist with administrative tasks surrounding training and move in such as welcome letters, signage, training workbook, etc.;

  • Assist with organizing move-in volunteers;

Other duties as assigned.

What you need to succeed:

  • Organization and attention to detail;

  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines;

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;

  • Resourceful; skilled in researching and compiling data; proficient with computers;

  • Experience in training, education, event planning and/or program development is an asset;

  • Awareness of the goals and values of the Brock University Residence community.
