The Portfolio Manager is a client-facing sales professional responsible for driving revenue growth through consultative sales of treasury management and payment solutions. This role focuses on acquiring new clients, expanding existing relationships, and positioning the bank as a strategic partner for cash flow, liquidity, and working capital optimization.
Leveraging deep industry knowledge and relationship management expertise, the incumbent identifies client needs, delivers tailored treasury and payments solutions, and partners with internal stakeholders to ensure seamless implementation and an exceptional client experience, all while maintaining strong regulatory and risk management standards.
Key Responsibilities
Sales & Business Development
- Drive new business acquisition and portfolio growth through consultative sales of treasury management and payment solutions to commercial clients.
- Manage the end-to-end sales lifecycle, including prospecting, needs analysis, solution positioning, pricing discussions, negotiation, and closing.
- Respond to client inquiries related to products, pricing, and implementation with clarity, urgency, and a sales-focused mindset.
- Conduct strategic sales conversations that introduce innovative treasury and payments solutions, demonstrate value, and address client pain points.
- Build advocacy and adoption of the bank’s industry-leading digital treasury and payment solutions, positioning them as essential tools for clients’ business success.
Treasury, Payments & Advisory Expertise
- Deliver tailored treasury management and payment solutions, aligning client operational needs with best-in-class banking capabilities.
- Analyze client financial and transactional data to recommend customized solutions that optimize cash management and working capital efficiency.
- Monitor trends such as overdrawn accounts and usage patterns to identify risk, compliance considerations, and sales opportunities.
- Stay current on treasury, payments, and fintech trends, using market insights to strengthen client discussions and sales strategies.
Implementation & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with implementation, product, risk, and operations teams to ensure smooth onboarding and timely delivery of treasury and payments solutions.
- Coordinate implementation activities, ensuring documentation, pricing, timelines, and deliverables align with client expectations.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to streamline sales and implementation processes and enhance the overall client experience.
- Provide feedback to product and strategy teams to shape solutions that better meet evolving client needs.
Market Presence & Brand Ambassadorship
- Represent the bank at industry forums, client events, and community engagements to strengthen brand presence and generate new business opportunities.
- Leverage market and industry insights gained through networking to inform sales strategies and client conversations.
Qualifications
Experience & Education
- 3–6 years of progressive experience in treasury management, payments, financial services sales, with a strong client-facing or revenue-generating focus.
- Bachelor’s degree is an asset; Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or related discipline preferred (or equivalent experience).

Salary:
$53,200.00 - $98,300.00

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.
