The Safety Manager plays a key role in all aspects of our safety program, ensuring materials are up to date, assisting workers with hazard assessments, incident reviews, and implementing appropriate safety measures. This position ensures compliance with company policies as well as government laws and regulations. The Safety Manager provides leadership and oversight in this area and contributes to the training and orientation of new employees. Additionally, this role encompasses administrative and leadership support, security, and other assigned projects or responsibilities.

Key Responsibility Areas:
Health and Safety Program/Policies:
· Develops, updates, and maintains health and safety programs, policies, and strategies.
· Maintains/creates Safe Work Procedures.
· Oversee the Joint Health and Safety meetings.
· Maintains Certificate of Recognition (COR) and conducts annual internal audits.
· Ensures OHS compliance in the workplace.
· Compiles injury statistics.
Workplace Safety Compliance & Investigation:
· Maintains a safe workplace for employees and visitors.
· Inspects workplaces to ensure that equipment, materials, and production processes do not present safety or health hazards to employees or the general public.
· Ensures corrective actions are developed and implemented by department heads for workplace hazards.
· Assists in investigations of health and safety-related complaints, including hazardous chemical spills and workplace accidents.
· Assist in Workplace Violence/ Harassment/ Bulling investigations conjunction with Human Resources.
· Gathers worker injury and personal information, submits WCB Employer reports, and monitors outcomes for potential claims.
· Performs WCB Clearance checks on contracted companies when required.
Leadership / Supervision:
· Coordinates performance planning, feedback, and supports employee development. Manages performance improvement, including coaching and discipline as required.
· Supervises, assigns, and prioritizes day-to-day work assignments for employees to meet deadlines.
· Plans, schedules, assigns, coordinates, and monitors job assignments, ensuring the necessary resources, equipment, and materials are available.
· Coordinates regular meetings with employees to discuss work progress and address questions.
· Focuses on effective team building, conflict resolution, consensus-building for best results, mentoring, and coaching.
· Manages employee scheduling, time-off requests, overtime, and work direction.
Training and Orientation:
· Provides consultation and delivers training programs to employees on health, environmental protection, and workplace safety issues.
Qualifications:
Education:
· Degree/Diploma in a related field or equivalent experience.
· Health and Safety Training.
Experience:
· 3-5 years of related experience.
· Equivalencies may be considered.
· Proficiency in Office 365 Apps, Teams and SharePoints.
Certification:
· Health and Safety certification.
· Manufacturer’s Health and Safety Association Peer COR Auditor.

Working Conditions:
· Some work is performed in an office environment, requiring attention to ergonomic practices (guidance will be provided).
· Other duties are performed in a manufacturing environment that can be noisy and hazardous, requiring the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
· Some work will take place outdoors in hot or cold conditions.
· The employee must provide CSA-certified work boots; all other PPE will be supplied.
