Job description

Position Summary

BCIT’s School of Construction and the Environment is seeking a temporary, full-time (1.0 FTE) Gasfitter Class A Instructor in our Piping department. Please note: This opportunity does have the potential of leading to full-time employment once the successful candidate has successfully completed a probationary period. Initial contract is for 3 months. Duties & Responsibilities DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Classroom instruction to apprentice, entry-level or Industry Services students.
  • Shop and laboratory instruction and supervision.
  • Administrative responsibilities, including assignments, examination marking, and student evaluation.
  • Curriculum maintenance and program enhancement.
  • Administrative processes required to ensure appropriate resources are in place to deliver training.
  • Other duties directly related to the instruction of trades and vocational programs.
  • Input into development of modifications to workshop and instructional areas.
Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS*:

  • BC Trades Certificate of Qualification in Gasfitter Class A
  • Five years’ current work experience as a ticketed Gas A journeyperson with industrial and commercial servicing and commissioning experience.
  • One of the following BC Trades Certificate of Qualification would be an asset
  • Inter-Provincial Red Seal endorsement in a piping discipline. Plumber Steamfitter/Pipefitter Sprinkler-fitter Gasfitter “Class B”
  • Effective interpersonal skills and a strong desire to teach.
  • Effective command of the English language – both written and oral.
  • Experience working with apprentices in a supervisory role.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and develop a collegial environment.
