The Port Hope Public library is hiring for a summer contract Library Services Assistant for the 2026 term.

Some of those services may include: Assisting the Programming and Community Engagement Coordinator in the planning, designing and implementation of summer programs for 2026 as well as for future planning purposes Assisting the Library Service team by providing services to all patrons of the library, including circulation, information services, reader’s advisory, e-resource support and research requests Assisting the Library Services Manager with collection development work as well as marketing and communications Education, Skills and Experience : Current post-secondary student, college or university (must be returning to school in Fall 2026) Enrollment in a library technician or recreational/educational program would be an asset Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills Customer service skills including conflict resolution, teamwork, professional work ethic and commitment to excellence Possess a high level of comfort with computer applications including MS Office, online databases, internet browsers and other technology Experience with Canva or other design software Experience working with children and/or planning and delivering children’s programs Familiarity with public library services and programs, along with knowledge of popular books, movies and video games, is an asset Ability to travel throughout Port Hope and access to reliable transportation is required along with a valid driver's license Vulnerable sector police record check required Our summer positions typically run from the end of May until the end of August.
Working hours per week will be an average of 30 hours and will include hours during the day, evening, and Saturdays.
Work sites will include both the Mary J.
Benson branch downtown, our rural branch located in the Port Hope Community Hub in Canton, and various other outreach locations throughout Port Hope.
Compensation: The hourly wage for this position is $20/hr.
