Position Summary
The Coordinator, Water Conservation is responsible for developing and promoting water conservation programs aimed at improving water use efficiency within the municipality. The position involves managing projects, contracts, and budgets, developing and administering water conservation rebate and incentive programs, educating the public, and collaborating with internal departments, external partners, and community organizations to promote sustainable water usage practices. The Coordinator will monitor water usage trends and report on the effectiveness of programs to ensure the municipality meets its water conservation goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and evaluate water conservation programs and initiatives to promote water use efficiency and other sustainable practices within the community.
- Oversee and coordinate ongoing projects by working closely with consultants and contractors, ensuring project milestones are met, work aligns with specified standards, and all activities stay on schedule and within budget.
- Develop and promote public education campaigns on water conservation programming, including the distribution of informational materials, organizing events, and conducting outreach activities.
- Support the preparation and management of the water meter budget and assist in tracking expenses.
- Collaborate with internal and external interest-holders, and community groups to ensure coordination and alignment of water conservation initiatives.
- Monitor and analyze water usage data to identify trends, assess program effectiveness, and make recommendations for improvements.
- Participate in the tender process by preparing and soliciting formal Tenders and Requests for Proposals (RFP) for software integration, capital developments and consulting services.
- Prepare and submit reports, including performance metrics, program updates, and budget reports, to senior management and municipal leadership.
- Manage the allocation of resources for water conservation projects, ensuring adherence to budgetary constraints and project timelines.
- Provide advice and guidance to municipal staff and the public regarding water-efficient technologies, best practices, and water-saving measures.
- Prepare and deliver reports on the performance of water conservation programs to municipal leadership and other stakeholders.
- Assess and recommend water-efficient technologies for municipal facilities and public infrastructure.

Position Requirements
Education & Certifications:
- Diploma in Environmental Science, Water Resources Management, Sustainability, or a related field.
Experience:
- 3 years of experience in water conservation, environmental management, or sustainability programs.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Water Conservation Expertise: Strong knowledge of water meters and radio transmitter technologies, water-saving technologies, best practices, and sustainable water management principles.
- Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with experience preparing and delivering technical reports, public education materials, and presentations.
- Data Analysis: Proficient in analyzing water usage data and developing reports to assess program impact and trends.
- Public Engagement: Proven ability to engage and motivate the public to adopt water-saving practices through education and outreach.
- Collaboration: Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse groups, including municipal staff, consultants, contractors, stakeholders, and the public.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to assess challenges and develop creative, sustainable solutions to reduce water consumption in the community.
- Project Management: Skilled in managing multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring deadlines, budgets, and quality standards are met while motivating project teams and fostering collaboration and high performance.
- Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with AMI software, customer engagement portals, GIS, and other relevant technologies for water utility management.
Working Conditions
- Work is performed primarily in an office with occasional site visits to municipal facilities, private property, construction sites, or public events.
- Standard business hours, Monday to Friday, with flexibility needed for community events or project deadlines.
- Exposure to outdoor environments during community events or site assessments, with potential exposure to variable weather conditions.
- Cognitive demands include using data to develop recommendations, identify trends, and adjust conservation strategies.
- Physical demands include extended periods of sitting and looking at a computer screen.
